The fantasy hockey season is starting to ramp up and so are the fantasy hockey injuries. Some players are going to be out for an extended period, but that opens the door for others to step up and seize their chance.

There are a couple of players on the NHL waiver wire report that should be on your roster moving forward. Let’s take a look at those names and continue to build momentum throughout the week with our NHL injury report for Week 3!

NHL Injury Report Ahead Of Week 3 Games: Fantasy Hockey Injuries

Devon Toews - Colorado Avalanche - Lower Body

The Colorado Avalanche have played Devon Toews on IR and there is no timetable for his return. This isn’t surprising considering he has missed the last four games, but it’s definitely a tough blow. Colorado has struggled out of the gate and the injuries continue to pile up.

Toews is a big part of this club and right now, we don’t know when he could return. Fantasy owners should stash him on their bench and wait for an update before deciding to part ways with him.

Darcy Kuemper - Los Angeles Kings - Lower Body

We knew it was only a matter of time before Darcy Kuemper got hurt, but we didn’t expect it to happen this early in the season. The veteran netminder has been placed on IR and we don’t know when he may be ready to return.

He got lit up against the Ottawa Senators for eight goals and hasn’t played since. If you drafted him, you knew exactly what you were getting from him, so don’t start crying now. Stash him on IR and hope he can come back sooner rather than later.

Anthony Duclair - New York Islanders - Leg

Anthony Duclair left last night’s game against Montreal with a leg injury and did not return. He needed help getting off the ice and initial reports are not promising. He is expected to be out long-term, but the injury isn’t season-ending.

Duclair isn’t an elite player, but he was in a good spot on an Islanders team that was counting on him for offence. There’s no need to hang onto him with the early news coming out.

J.T. Miller - Vancouver Canucks - Undisclosed

J.T. Miller is “dealing with some stuff” and his status for the next game is up in the air. Head Coach Rick Tocchet provided that quote, which doesn’t say much but also says everything. Miller is a big part of his team, both offensively and defensively, so if he misses any extended period, that would be bad.

He didn’t take many faceoffs last game and played just over 17 minutes, which isn’t usual for him. It sounds like some rest is all the veteran may need, but how healthy he will be moving forward does create some anxiety for fantasy owners.

Fantasy Hockey Week 3 Waiver Wire

Tom Wilson - Washington Capitals - Yahoo!: 44% Owned

I'm going to start by saying this -- I’m not a big fan of Tom Wilson. He’s slightly overrated in my boos, but I will give him credit when it’s due. He’s been fantastic to start the season-- scoring five goals and adding an assist.

He only has 12 shots on goal, so he’s going to regress at some point, but he also blocks shots and throws his weight around, so there is value to having him on your roster. The risk with Wilson is always that he will do something dumb and get suspended, but right now, he’s worth a roster spot.

Ross Colton - Colorado Avalanche - Yahoo!: 54% Owned

If you don’t get on the Ross Colton train now, you may never get on it this season. Colorado is falling apart in front of our eyes, but Colton is trying to help keep things together. He has six goals and 22 shots on goal so far this season, including four power play points.

The Avalanche are still elite on the power play and that won’t change, so he’s getting a great chance to shoot the puck and rack up points. He may slide down the lineup once players start to get healthy, or he could stick in the top six and never look back. I’ll take my chances with him, and you should too.

Mikael Grandlund - San Jose Sharks - Yahoo!: 28% Owned

San Jose is going to be awful this year, but they still have some players worth targeting in fantasy. Macklin Celebrini is out of the line and Mikael Grandlund has been bumped to the top line and it has paid off to this point. He has five points in the last three games, two of which have come on the power play, and he is playing well over 21 minutes a night.

That is some serious volume. His shot totals aren’t going to be great, but he provides value and won’t cost you anything. He also doesn’t have much competition for his spot, so this is a good add if you need some depth up front.

Joel Blomqvist - Pittsburgh Penguins - Yahoo!: 12% Owned

The goaltending situation in Pittsburgh is a mess and it will probably be like that for the entire season. How bad is it? Tristan Jarry was a healthy scratch on Sunday. The Penguins may elect to carry three goalies on the roster--which isn’t ideal-- but there is a silver lining here: Joel Bolmqvist.

He’s played the most this season, and while his numbers aren’t great, he gives his team the best chance to win. Jarry is a mess, and Alex Nedeljkovic is coming back from injury, so there is a chance for Blomqvist to win the starting job. He has a lot of hurdles in front of him, but if you’re trying to find a goalie on the waiver wire and willing to ride the rough patch for a few weeks, he’s the player to target.
