"We certainly like the season that Ville had coming in and solidified the tandem with Alex," Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman said, "I think we've got two guys that we can put in the net every night and give us a reasonably good chance to win." Husso was acquired from St. Louis on Friday and signed to a three-year contract.  "We were going to get a goalie to share the net with 'Nedo,' and I'm very excited about that," said new coach Derek Lalonde. "He was a target of other guys. They did a heck of a job. I just found that out walking over here this morning."

Nedeljkovic was 20-24-9 with a 3.31 GAA and a .901 save percentage for the Red Wings this season. He should be ready to go for training camp in September.

Obviously, I didn’t do it enough this year,” Nedeljkovic said. “We were (second-to) last in the league in goals against. Obviously, that’s not good enough. It will be better. I’ll just tell you that right now. We’re not going to be in this position next year. If nothing were to change from how the season ended to next year, I’m not going to allow that to happen again. I hold myself to a certain standard and I didn’t meet that standard this year. Let’s just put it simply -- it’s not going to happen again.” Nedeljkovic is worth a late pick next season in deeper drafts as he will be the number one goalie for Detroit who should be an improved team.

Nedeljkovic held the Maple Leafs off the scoreboard well into the second period before finally giving up a goal to Auston Matthews with under five minutes remaining before intermission. Additional goals by John Tavares and Matthews (again) in the third period finished out the scoring on Nedeljkovic's line. Not a horrible outing, but with Jack Campbell shutting down Detroit's offense on the opposite end of the ice, Nedeljkovic just didn't have room for error. He had shut out New Jersey in his previous start before coming back down to earth by degrees against Toronto. The Red Wings will wrap up their regular-season schedule in a Friday date with the aforementioned New Jersey Devils.
