Week 5 Monday Night Football Packers vs Raiders Predictions

Jordan Love, Green Bay Packers – HIGHER Than 20.5 Completions

Statistically speaking, the Las Vegas Raiders pass defense has been solid this season. The Raiders are allowing just 202.8 passing yards per game. However, the defense has also given up a 70.7% completion rate and an 8:1 TD:INT ratio through the first four games. Let’s target one of those stats with Jordan Love. The Green Bay Packers quarterback hasn’t been the most efficient passer with a 56.1% completion rate thus far. Still, he’s completed 22 and 23 passes in the past two games and can go over 20.5 tonight. Love’s increase in completions has coincided with an overall uptick in passing volume as he’s thrown it 44 and 36 times in these past two contests. Compare that to when he went 15-for-27 and 14-for-25 in the first two weeks. 

If the Packers want to move the ball effectively and have success on offense tonight, it likely has to come through the air. Green Bay is averaging only 74.5 rush yards per game (2nd-worst in NFL). The Raiders have allowed two of four opposing QBs to have 21+ completions this year. The two that didn’t both came in games where Vegas was trailing by double-digits in the second half so the offenses on the other side didn’t need to throw as much. This matchup vs Green Bay should be tight enough, so Love may have 40 pass attempts to get those completions in.

Josh Jacobs, Las Vegas Raiders – HIGHER Than 73.5 Rushing Yards

Josh Jacobs has gotten off to a very slow start this season with only 166 rushing yards through the first four games. He’s averaging only 2.7 yards per carry and has yet to eclipse 70 yards in any game thus far. So, why are we backing his rushing yards to be higher than 73.5 tonight? Jacobs’ performances this year are screaming at us to go the other way. Yet, this is a very favorable matchup and Jacobs could go for 100+ yards. 

The Green Bay Packers defense is allowing 155.3 rushing yards per game, the second-most in the NFL, and 4.5 yards per carry. Two of four opposing lead backs have run for 120+ yards against the Packers already (Bijan Robinson and David Montgomery). The other two matchups came against the Saints and Bears, but both need some context. The Saints were without Alvin Kamara and Jamaal Williams in the game and the offense fell apart in the second half after Derek Carr got hurt. The Bears split carries between four guys, including Justin Fields, and were throwing more late while trailing. 

As for Jacobs, he is the clear bellcow in the Raiders backfield with 88% of the team’s running back carries this season. If he gets the work in a close game tonight, Jacobs should have a much better stat line than we’ve seen from him – and one closer to those of Bijan and Monty. Though this start of the season has been rough for Jacobs, this is still the same running back who averaged 97.2 rushing yards per game last year.
