Fantasy Football Week 10 Running Back Handcuff Report: Justice Hill & More
A star RB who was the number one overall pick in many season long fantasy football leagues has a chance to make his season debut in Week 10. His RB handcuff did a remarkable job filling in for him this season but just like what happened to Cinderella when the clock struck at midnight, that RB handcuff who magically became a lead back will go back to being an RB2 on the depth chart.
We’ve got other news to cover, like the fact that the Cincinnati Bengals and the Minnesota Vikings appear to have new RB handcuffs. We’re still monitoring the injury statuses of two potentially explosive RB handcuffs ahead of Week 10 as well. The 2024 Week 10 RB Handcuff Report has you covered with Fantasy Football Week 10 Running Back Handcuffs.
Fantasy Football NFL Week 10 Running Back Handcuff Report
The Dallas Cowboys’ backfield has been a mess this season and in Week 9 Ezekiel Elliott, who had been Rico Dowdle’s RB handcuff, was benched for disciplinary reasons. It seems he missed or showed up late to several team meetings over the past few weeks and the Cowboys have had just about enough of him.
That leaves Dalvin Cook as Dowdle’s Fantasy Football Week 10 Running Back Handcuff handcuff and while it seems that he runs hard and runs with urgency when he touches the ball, unfortunately Cook doesn’t really seem to get anywhere these days. Deuce Vaughn is still on the Cowboys’ roster but he hasn’t played a snap since Week 4.
Based on his strength of schedule I like what Dowdle (4.52 YPC this season) can offer fantasy football managers, but I don’t know if I’d ever consider starting his RB handcuff or whoever eventually grabs hold of the role, if Dowdle were to ever miss a game.
With Zack Moss on the IR and expected to miss the rest of the season, the Bengals have a new RB handcuff that I’d consider starting if Chase Brown were unavailable. They acquired Khalil Herbert from the Chicago Bears just before the NFL’s trade deadline, and he’ll be backing up Brown should he be unavailable.
The Bengals also have veteran RB Trayveon Williams, who has good ball catching skills, and rookie RB Kendall Milton on their roster, but Herbert was clearly brought in to be Brown’s Fantasy Football Week 10 Running Back Handcuff.
As for the Bears, Roschon Johnson remains D’Andre Swift’s RB handcuff. Herbert had frequently been a healthy scratch for the Bears but Travis Homer, who has a history with Bears offensive coordinator Shane Waldron, might get the opportunity to play some snaps if either Johnson or Swift is unavailable. He’s not worth rostering, but could eventually become Swift’s RB handcuff if Johnson were to miss time.
Based on his usage in Week 9, it appears that Cam Akers is Minnesota Vikings RB Aaron Jones’ Fantasy Football Week 10 Running Back Handcuff. Ty Chandler still played his regular allotment of special teams snaps but, he didn’t play any offensive snaps. Chandler took on a larger role in the Vikings’ backfield beginning in Week 10 of last season and had some ups and downs which probably led to Minnesota’s signing of Aaron Jones during the offseason.
The Vikings have made it known that every down consistency from Chandler is his gateway to a permanently larger role in their offense. We need to monitor the Vikings’ RB usage in the coming weeks but for now it looks like Akers is the next man up in their backfield.
How To Find The Best RB Handcuffs
The Carolina Panthers finally activated rookie RB Jonathon Brooks and added him to their 53 man roster. There’s no guarantee that he’ll play in Week 10 against the New York Giants but once he’s fully healthy he’ll challenge current Panthers RB handcuff Miles Sanders for playing time and could even share and then take over lead back duties currently held by Chuba Hubbard.
There’s also a chance that Baltimore Ravens RB Keaton Mitchell (knee) could be active for his Thursday night matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals on Thursday night. In limited play last season Mitchell had 47 carries and averaged 8.43 YPC. He won’t be Derrick Henry’s direct RB handcuff. That job belongs to Justice Hill, but Mitchell can be treated as a speculative add if you play in a deep league. He should at least be on your watch list.
Despite being listed as the Denver Broncos’ third RB, Audric Estime is getting plenty of helium following head coach Sean Payton’s suggestion that his playing time could increase as the season progresses.
Unfortunately, Payton’s comments make it difficult to nail down who specifically is the Broncos’ Fantasy Football Week 10 Running Back Handcuff. It’s possible that if lead back Javonte Williams were to miss time, Estime and Jaleel McLaughlin could initially share lead back duties until one or the other establishes himself as the team’s best option.
Top 3 RB Handcuffs Ahead Of NFL Week 10
Justice Hill, Baltimore Ravens
Derrick Henry has been one of fantasy football’s best RBs this season and the Ravens love to run the ball. For now Hill is Henry’s RB handcuff but Keaton Mitchell could eventually take over that role.
Kenneth Gainwell, Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles run the ball more than any team in the NFL and Saquon Barkley is showing the world what he can do when he plays behind a good offensive line. Should he be forced to miss time Gainwell will try to replace him, although that will be hard to do.
Jordan Mason/Isaac Guerendo, San Francisco 49ers
Christian McCaffrey (Achilles) is practicing this week and could potentially return to action in Week 10. If he’s active you should start him in season long leagues but for the long haul, you should protect yourself and make sure to roster his RB handcuff if you can.
Mason had been dealing with a shoulder injury prior to the 49ers Week 9 bye and it forced him from the 49ers’ Week 8 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys. He’s had a week to rest but if he’s unavailable on your league’s waiver wire try to grab Guerendo if at all possible.
