Raiders vs. Broncos Predictions For NFL Week 5, Sunday 10/6

These teams play a minimum of twice a year and possibly more if they find themselves matched up again in the AFC playoffs. That probably won’t be the case this year but still. In recent years, the Raiders have quietly gotten the best of this matchup - in fact, they’ve beaten the Broncos eight straight times.

Every year is a new year, and every team is a new team but it’s worth mentioning that the Broncos are looking to break a streak here. And they are favored in this one. Both teams are 2-2 through four weeks. And, in typical NFL fashion, they’ve pulled some upsets along the way.

The Raiders managed to beat the Baltimore Ravens while the Broncos knocked off the New York Jets last week and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers the week before that. This time around the Raiders will travel up to Mile High Stadium to face the Broncos at home.

Las Vegas Raiders: The Davante Adams Diva Saga

Wide receivers posting cryptic messages to social media has become a meme at this stage and Davante Adams is no stranger to that game. This time around he posted a picture of Edgar Allen Poe with no caption, causing folks to speculate that maybe he could be traded to the Baltimore Ravens (or who knows honestly).

Either way, it’s starting to feel like he’s played his last game in Las Vegas. That, along with injuries to guys like Zamir White and Michael Mayer, could leave the Raiders offense fairly short-handed this week.

Last week they opted to use Harrison Bryant as the inline tight end in place of Mayer with Jakobi Meyers and Tre Tucker out wide with Brock Bowers and DJ Turner working out of the slot. It’s not just the offense that is banged up either.

Maxx Crosby and Divine Deablo are trying to suit up but neither practiced through Thursday nor got a full session in on Friday. Typically, a team with a .500 record has a little more hope but it feels like Antonio Pierce might have lost this locker room already.

Denver Broncos: “Live Tryouts” Continue

It seems pretty clear that the Denver Broncos have not sorted out who their preferred weapons are beyond Bo Nix and Courtland Sutton. They’ve now had multiple different pass-catchers have individual games with big targets from Josh Reynolds to DeVaughn Vele to Greg Dulcich

And the same goes for the backs where Javonte Williams, Jaleel McLaughlin, and Tyler Badie have all gotten touches. This past week, in an impressive (or perhaps infamous) feat, Courtland Sutton had 60 receiving yards while Bo Nix had 60 total passing yards.

That’s thanks to multiple pass catchers finishing with negative receiving yards on the day. The Bronco rotating offense creates a bit of a wildcard for us as Sean Payton figures out who will be part of the long-term plans or not.

The Broncos defense, on the other hand, has actually been quite impressive. Pat Surtain as the shadow corner has been shutting down fantasy football production either via good coverage or pass interference.

The Broncos are actually a top 5 defense in DVOA per FTN Fantasy and they’ve been particularly stingy against the run.

Raiders vs. Broncos Predictions: Denver -3 (-110 at BetMGM Sportsbook)

It would be one thing if the Las Vegas Raiders stars were healthy. And it would be another if they were willing to play for the Las Vegas Raiders. But, with the extensive list of injuries to some of the top players on both sides of the ball and Davante Adams seemingly shooting his way out of town, I’m just not sure what there is to like about the Raiders right now.

Pat Surtain has shut down studs like Mike Evans in recent weeks so, whichever of Jakobi Meyers or Tre Tucker they want to take out of the game at any particular moment, that should be easy work for Surtain. The run defense has been a strong point as well and, with Zamir White out and the Raiders line banged up, that’s not really a tremendous option here either.

Arguments can be made that the Denver Broncos don’t have the means of scoring many points themselves, which is a compelling argument for the under. But I think the Broncos take care of business pretty easily here. And I would not be surprised if Antonio Pierce is out as Raiders head coach sooner rather than later.
