Last week the Denver Broncos were 11-point favorites over the Carolina Panthers. And they covered. This week? They 9.5-point underdogs to the Baltimore Ravens. A Ravens team that was 7.5-point favorites over the Cleveland Browns in a game they lost.

Broncos vs. Ravens Predictions For NFL Week 9, Sunday 11/3
The Broncos and Ravens did not face off last season but they did play in 2022 and 2021. The Ravens won an incredibly low scoring affair in the most recent matchup with a 10-9 win. That, of course, was before the Sean Payton and Bo Nix era.
The Baltimore Ravens dropped their first two games of the season to the Chiefs and Raiders. They then rattled off five straight wins before dropping to the Browns this past week. The Broncos beat the Buccaneers, Jets, Raiders, Saints (without Derek Carr), and the Panthers to sit 5-3. Not exactly the toughest opponents but that also isn’t the Broncos fault.
Denver Broncos: Bo Nix - The “Bonami Code”
Based on his profile coming out of Oregon, we figured Bo Nix would be a good fit for the Joe Lombardi offense. He does a great job with short accurate passes. What we did not expect was for Bo Nix to run as much as he has. He’s currently a top five quarterback in the league in rush attempts. That has been a pleasant surprise for fantasy gamers.
Outside of Courtland Sutton and Javonte Williams, the Broncos have been rotating most weeks without any clear cut second pass catcher. In fact, Javonte Williams is second on this team in targets behind Sutton. Lil’Jordan Humphries has gotten the closest to a WR2 snap share while mixing with guys like Devaughn Vele, Troy Franklin, and Marvin Mims.
The Broncos defense has been the true star. They are currently a top five defense based on DVOA per FTN Fantasy. And a big part of that has been Patrick Surtin II’s ability to lock down top pass-catchers.
Baltimore Ravens: Loading Up For A Playoff Run
Derrick Henry and Lamar Jackson have been dominant on the ground. The 1,600 rushing yards the Ravens have as a team is 274 more than the next closest team. Henry himself has 190 more yards than the next highest running back.
The receiver corps of Zay Flowers, Rashod Bateman, Mark Andrews, and Isaiah Likely has been getting the job done. But the Ravens have big aspirations so they traded for Diontae Johnson from the Carolina Panthers. It’s yet to be seen how he will fit in but he has averaged over eight targets per game with both the Panthers and Steelers so it’s hard to believe he won’t carve out a nice role.
On defense, the Ravens have been great against the run but pretty awful against the pass. In fact, the Ravens are allowing the fewest rushing yards per team on the ground on average (69) while allowing the most passing yards per game through the air (291). So teams know how they will need to beat the Ravens.

Broncos vs. Ravens: Broncos +9.5 (-110 at BetMGM Sportsbook)
I agree that the Denver Broncos have gotten a lot of wins against lesser competition. There is no doubt about that. But people want to immediately label them as frauds and completely discount them for that. And I don’t think that’s the case.
Diontae Johnson won’t be up to speed and there are even some reports that they don’t plan to feature him. Pat Surtain is going to cause headaches for Zay Flowers. And the Broncos run defense is solid.
On the flip side, Bo Nix has done a good job of taking care of the football. As Joe Lombardi offenses always are, the Broncos are top five in passes to the running back. And the Ravens just so happen to be bottom five in both receptions and receiving yards allowed to the running back. Getting Javonte Williams involved is going to be key to the Broncos hanging in there.
Keep in mind here that the Broncos don’t need to win this game. They just need to not get blown out by double digits. They can lose by eight or nine points and you can call them frauds all you want and we can still hit our bet of Broncos +9.5.

Player News
Packers signed WR Bo Melton, RB Emanuel Wilson, and P Daniel Whelan to their exclusive rights free agent tenders.
Melton caught on with the Packers in 2023, totaling 16 receptions for 218 yards and a touchdown in five games. He added eight receptions for 91 yards in 17 games last season. Melton will continue to be a depth piece in an already-deep Packers wide receiver room. Wilson has also been with the Packers for two seasons and rushed for 502 yards and four touchdowns as Josh Jacobs’ immediate backup last season. He will compete with MarShawn Lloyd for that role again. Whelan is the team’s punter and will be back for 2025. All three signed their exclusive rights free agent tender and will essentially be on one-year contracts this season.
Seahawks re-signed Johnathan Hankins to a one-year contract.
Hankins hasn’t had a PFF run defense grade above 52.4 since 2020 and is primarily called on to play early downs. He turned 33 in March. He’ll be a complimentary piece behind Jarran Reed and Byron Murphy II if he makes the roster out of training camp.
Chargers placed the UFA tender on RB J.K. Dobbins.
This gives the Chargers exclusive negotiating rights if he does not sign with a team by July 22 or the first 2025 NFL training camp opens, whichever comes first. The tag is mainly useful for compensatory pick reasons as Dobbins will still count towards Los Angeles’ haul in the formula if signed before then. The Chargers currently do not project to add a pick in 2026 per Over The Cap’s Nick Korte.
49ers signed OT D.J. Humphries.
Humphries played in only two games for the Chiefs last year as he spent most of the season rehabbing a late 2023 torn ACL on his own. He wasn’t appreciably good in either of those games, but he was rusty and does have a history of better than that. Entering his age-32 season for the 49ers, he’ll probably be trying to win the right tackle job opposite Trent Williams in training camp.
Patriots released LS Joe Cardona.
The team selected his replacement, Julian Ashby, in the seventh round of the draft. This snapper of balls who are longer than usual is only 33, and it’s possible he picks up his career elsewhere. There aren’t too many remaining Patriots Regimes in the wild in 2025, but Nick Caserio does still run the Texans and they let Jon Weeks walk this offseason so that’s one speculative fit.
NewOrleans.Football’s Nick Underhill said he would be “flabbergasted” if Derek Carr played for the Saints this year.
“I would have trouble understanding why you would allow that to happen, you’re trying to build a new culture, you can’t let that guy ... you just got a rookie QB, this is the example you’re going to give him,” Underhill continued. Both Underhill and Mike Triplett believe Tyler Shough will be starting for the Saints in Week 1, with Underhill saying he had “80 percent or higher odds to start 80 percent of the games this year.” Shough would be an uninspiring superflex pick, perhaps a QB3, but given how things have played out with Carr over the past months it sure doesn’t seem like the Saints have a reason to want to continue this relationship. Mickey Loomis literally asked reporters to stop asking him Carr questions at his pre-draft press conference.
