Panthers vs. Raiders Predictions For NFL Week 3, Sunday 9/22

Prior to Week 2, it looked certain that this matchup would be between two 0-2 teams, as the Panthers and Raiders were two of the biggest underdogs on the slate. Las Vegas was the absolute biggest, as they were taking on the Baltimore Ravens in Charm City. However, they pulled off the upset, eliminating the most popular survivor pool pick.

Interestingly enough, that was the second straight week with the top pick getting knocked out, but alas, we’re just burying the lead at this point. Carolina has made the call to bench to bench the 2023 #1 overall pick - QB Bryce Young.

Carolina Panthers: Relying On The Red Rifle

Not only did the Panthers bench Young, but they also wasted no time in doing so. It was barely afternoon on Monday when they made the announcement that veteran QB Andy Dalton would be starting against the Raiders.

This situation is the epitome of how much it matters what circumstances a player is drafted into. It’s going to be nearly impossible for Young to ever take over the signal calling in Carolina, as his confidence has to be as low as ever. Of course, it also doesn’t help that through two weeks, he’s thrown for 245 yards, three picks and no touchdowns.

Las Vegas Raiders: Avoiding A Letdown Spot

As mentioned, the Raiders rallied against the Ravens in Week 2, proving oddsmakers wrong by overcoming a point spread that nearly reached double digits at points in the week. Speaking of double digits, that is exactly what Minshew Mania had to overcome to pull off the comeback.

Baltimore blew a 10-point, fourth-quarter lead yet again, which is something that they have become infamous for at this point. So, that begs the question - was this more of a Ravens collapse or Raiders rally? Only time will tell, and it all starts with this week’s Panthers vs. Raiders predictions.

Panthers vs. Raiders Predictions: Under 40.5 Points (-105 at FanDuel Sportsbook)

The news of Young getting benched instantly caused one of the biggest line movements we’ll see all week. It’s quite a surprising one to many, as it appears that oddsmakers have more faith in Dalton than you may have expected.

Carolina went from being seven-point underdogs to 5.5, and the total ballooned from 38.5 points to 41.5 points! While it has ticked down just a bit since then, that increase provides us great value with our Panthers vs. Raiders predictions. We don’t expect either team to eclipse 20 points, so we’re taking the under.

The Panthers are the easier side of our Panthers vs. Raiders predictions, as their offense has continued to be abysmal this season. Of course, it may look slightly different with Dalton, but we’re just fine with that. The Red Rifle has thrown the second-most pick-sixes of any active QB (18), and we just saw the Raiders shut down the Ravens run game.

Their balanced defense, albeit not the world’s best, should be enough to slow down Carolina. As for the Panthers, they may as well put four secondary players on WR Davante Adams to negate 90% of Las Vegas’ offense. The Raiders scored just 10 points in Week 1, and with this letdown spot traveled back to the desert, the best bet from our Panthers vs. Raiders predictions is under 40.5 points (-105 at FanDuel Sportsbook).
