NFL Week 9 Best Bets and Prop Bets

The NFL Week 9 Best Bets got off to a real nice start as we not only hit with taking the Steelers against
the spread, but we also nailed the under and went 3-1 on our Thursday Night Football player props. But
now we look ahead to Sunday’s action and it starts real early with a 9:30am ET kickoff for the Miami
Dolphins/Kansas City Chiefs game in Frankfurt, Germany. It should be one of the better games this week
and we’ve got a few exciting match-ups. The question is…which ones do we want to bet?
NFL Week 9 Best Bets:
Miami Dolphins at Kansas City Chiefs (Frankfurt, Germany)
There is far too much talk of the Dolphins not beating a team over .500 since Week 3 of the 2022 season
and not enough of Tyreek Hill’s revenge-game narrative. OK, I’m just playing around, but the first part is
definitely true. People are bringing that little nugget to the forefront of so many conversations, that it
immediately tilts me towards taking Miami. But I don’t even need to be contrarian when you look at
what this Dolphins offense can do. The Chiefs defense has had its moments, but stopping the Fins is not
an easy task. On the other side, find a way to neutralize Travis Kelce and you’re basically cutting off one
of Patrick Mahomes’ legs. Can Vic Fangio figure it out? Yes he can.
Pick: Dolphins +1.5 (-110)
Seattle Seahawks at Baltimore Ravens
There are too many similarities between the Seattle defense and the Lions defense to not make you
think the Seahawks could be in more trouble than some think. Strict zone coverage in the secondary and
very little blitzing. That was how Lamar Jackson carved up Detroit two weeks ago. Arizona was in man-
coverage for at least half the dropbacks last week and that’s what jammed up the passing game. Of
course, who needs one when the Gus Bus is pushing it all across the goal line himself? Yes, Seattle has
Jamal Adams, Devin Witherspoon has been fantastic and they just added Leonard Williams, but a
quarterback of Jackson’s caliber should be able to work through a system regardless of the names on
the jerseys. We also really like the Ravens defense and dislike Geno Smith with his five INTs over the last
three games.
Pick: Ravens -6 (-110)
New York Giants at Las Vegas Raiders
When a team fires its coach midseason, more often than not, that team either wins outright or at least
covers the spread. For the actual data, our friends over at The Action Network did a little digging and
brought us this little nugget from October of last season: “32 teams have fired their coach during the
regular season since 2003. Those teams have gone 15-17 straight up (SU) and 17-15 against the spread
(ATS). A 46.9% SU win rate might not look great, but those teams had an 84-229-2 record (26.8%) prior
to the head coaching change. They also compiled a 116-193-5 ATS (37.5%) record prior to the coaching
change.” The Raiders are either gonna win one for their old coach because they loved Josh McDaniels or
they’re going to prove that he was the problem and not them. Either way…
Pick: Raiders -1.5 (-110)
Favorite NFL Week 9 Player Props:
- Jonathan Taylor over 66.5 rushing yards (-115)
- Geno Smith over 0.5 INT (-115)
- Chuba Hubbard over 64.5 rush + rec yards (-115)
- Van Jefferson over 2.5 receptions (+140)

Player News
The Athletic’s Vic Tafur reports that Raiders co-owner “Tom Brady likes the idea of rookie quarterbacks sitting and soaking it all in” during the player’s rookie season.
Tafur also notes that after examining Geno Smith’s recent contract extension through 2027, “the Raiders have a clear out after 2026.” Smith’s team-friendly deal keeps the Raiders in play for a quarterback with the No. 6 overall pick, though fantasy managers may be forced to wait a year before drafting said player.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said Derek Carr is “believed” to have suffered “a significant” injury in his throwing shoulder during the 2024 season.
The Saints listed the right-armed Carr with a left-hand injury late in Weeks 15-18 but made no mention of a throwing-shoulder issue. There seems to be more to this story. Carr has not yet decided whether he will undergo surgery but, regardless, it seems clear that the Saints must select a quarterback early in the 2025 NFL Draft at this point.
NBC Sports’ ProFootballTalk reports that “Titans cornerback L’Jarius Sneed is facing a lawsuit for at least $1 million after an incident in the parking lot of a car dealership December.
The individual suing Sneed reportedly alleges that either “Sneed or Sneed’s personal assistant shot at him while” parked at a car dealership. The individual’s lawyer also claims that there is video evidence to support the allegation. Other details are currently unknown. Sneed also rehabbing a quad injury suffered in-season last year.
The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reports that “the Saints have been preparing for the draft knowing about” Derek Carr’s recently disclosed shoulder injury.
Though news of the injury broke only today, it appears as though the Saints’ have known “about this recent shoulder issue” for some time. The Saints brain trust evidently sprung a leak, though, and now the rest of the QB-needy teams know that leapfrogging the Saints’ No. 9 overall pick may be required to secure a high-end prospect. Carr’s 2025 availability remains unknown.
Broncos signed S Sam Franklin Jr. to a one-year, $1.5 million contract.
The Broncos added former Saints interim head coach and long-time special team coach Darren Rizzi to their staff this offseason. He holds both the special teams coach and assistant head coach roles. Beat reporter Chris Tomasson reports that Rizzi is said to have “pushed” for Franklin’s signing this offseason, after watching Franklin dominate NFC South special teams play as a member of the Panthers. Franklin has totaled at least seven special teams tackles in each of the last four seasons.
Free agent EDGE Chris Rumph II worked out for the Broncos on Friday.
The former Chargers’ fourth-round pick has been unable to remain on-field over the last two seasons, suffering a season-ending foot injury in November 2023, followed by an undisclosed season-ending injury in August 2024. Rumph has flashed pass-rushing and tackling traits when available, posting a career-best 10.3 percent pass-rush win rate in nine 2023 games. He has 26 quarterback pressures, three sacks and 19 tackles to his name.
