Chargers vs. Panthers Predictions for Week 2, Sunday 9/15

With one of the most significant line movements of Week 2, we’ve seen the Chargers become an even heavier favorite, not only moving far beyond the key number of three but even approaching a massive jump to the key number of seven.

Whether it hits that touchdown mark or not, such a massive move is something that we’re going to avoid with our Chargers vs. Panthers predictions. We’ll have our best bet coming up, but as mentioned, both teams left plenty to be desired in Week 1. The Chargers were at least able to come away with a victory, but Carolina was absolutely crushed.

They had the worst result of the opening weekend, going down 47-10 to the New Orleans Saints, who aren’t exactly one of the Super Bowl favorites. After finishing 2-15 last season, are the Panthers on track for another pitiful campaign?

Los Angeles Chargers: Cultivating A More Convincing Outcome

Before we’re able to answer that question, what about these new Chargers? We say new for several reasons, starting at the top with new head coach Jim Harbaugh. After a decade away from the NFL, his first game back was a win behind an offense that is no longer featuring RB Austin Ekeler and WRs Keenan Allen and Mike Williams.

Such significant offseason losses is what led LA to having one of the weaker wins of the opening Sunday slate. They were able to take down a division rival in the Las Vegas Raiders, but their offense looked sluggish, especially the offensive line. Given that QB Justin Herbert was already nursing an injury entering the season, that’s not a good sign for the LA signal caller.

Carolina Panthers: Proving That Week 1 Isn’t The Norm

Speaking of rough outings for signal callers, second-year QB Bryce Young, unfortunately, found his team beginning this year right where they left off. The Saints absolutely dominated from the opening kickoff, surging out to an early lead and taking a 30-0 lead into the halftime locker room.

Not only did Young throw two interceptions, but he also completed less than 50% of his passes. He went just 13-for-30 for 161 yards while his counterpart - Saints QB Derek Carr - threw for three touchdown passes. The hope for Carolina fans entering the year was that last season’s 2-15 finish was just a product of a rookie QB, but if Week 1 indicates anything, it may be another long year for them.

Chargers vs. Panthers Odds, Spreads, Total & Betting Lines

We mentioned that Los Angeles has been becoming even more significant road favorites throughout the week, and you can see that with the Chargers vs. Panthers odds at FanDuel Sportsbook below:

Chargers vs. Panthers Under 38.5 Points (-108 at FanDuel Sportsbook)

After we saw from the Chargers and Panthers in Week 1, we’re not surprised to see such a low total. Therefore, it’s likely just as unsurprising that we’re focusing on an under. While the total has moved down from around 40 to 38.5 points, we’re still comfortable doing so.

The Panthers offense was fantastic for low-scoring games all of last season, and that looks set to continue this year. Remember, they were shutout in the first half, ultimately scoring just 10 total points in Week 1. Along with Young throwing for just 161 yards, Carolina’s leading rusher was Miles Sanders with just 22 yards on five carries.

That’s as bad as it gets, and of course, the concern is how many points they allowed to the Saints last weekend. Well, the Chargers offense is a shell of what it was last season, which is why they scored just 22 points for their win against the Raiders. Herbert’s lack of weapons was also clearly shown, as he threw for just 141 yards!

Additionally, their defense allowed just 10 total points to Las Vegas, so we’re comfortable making the best bet from our Chargers vs. Panthers predictions on the under 38.5 points (-108 at FanDuel Sportsbook).
