We’re heading into Week 13 of the season and key players are going down with NFL injuries with regularity.
Some fantasy football injuries heading into Week 13 are more serious than others and some look precautionary.
NFL Injury Report For Week 13: Fantasy Football Injuries
We’ll need to monitor the practice reports to see how things play out.
Let’s dive into the Week 13 NFL Injury Report and see what we have to monitor for our fantasy football lineups.
NFL Week 13 Injury Report: Quarterbacks
Trevor Lawrence Injury Update - Shoulder
After missing the last two games, Trevor Lawrence has returned to practice following the Jaguars bye week. After this week of practice, head coach Doug Pederson will decide his availability.
Gardner Minshew Injury Update - Shoulder
It has been confirmed by head coach Antonio Pierce that Gardner Minshew has a broken collarbone and will miss the remainder of the 2024 season.
Aidan O'Connell Injury Update - Thumb
The Raiders are activating Aidan O'Connell off of injured reserve and according to head coach Antonio Pierce, he’ll start on Friday if he is cleared by doctors and can grip the football. O’Connell’s job for the remainder of the season seems safe with Minshew now out for the year.
NFL Week 13 Injury Report: Running Backs
David Montgomery Injury Update - Shoulder
Colton Pouncey, reporter for The Athletic, asked David Montgomery if he could’ve gone back into the game and Montgomery said yeah, but Dan Campbell was the one to remind him about the end goal. Montgomery also went on to say he’ll be good to go for Thursday’s Thanksgiving Day game.
Brian Robinson Injury Update - Ankle
Brian Robinson left early in the Commanders' Week 12 loss and tried coming back but simply couldn’t get anything going. Head coach Dan Quinn said Robinson has an ankle injury and will be evaluated throughout the week. Robinson has been banged up all year long.
Austin Ekeler Injury Update - Concussion
Head coach Dan Quinn provided some information on behalf of Austin Ekeler and said the scans for Ekeler looked good, but he is in fact in concussion protocol. They play on Sunday, so we’ll have to see how the week goes for Ekeler.
NFL Week 13 Injury Report: Wide Receivers
Amon-Ra St. Brown injury Update - Knee
On the Lions estimated injury report, they listed Amon-Ra St. Brown as a DNP or did not participate because of his knee. This is not something that St. Brown left the Lions’ Week 12 game with, so it could be something new or lingering that has resurfaced. Either way, it’s something to monitor because they play on Thanksgiving Day.
Josh Downs Injury Update - Shoulder
Per Ian Rapoport of the NFL, it’s believed that Josh Downs avoided serious injury to his shoulder, but it’s hurt enough to keep him out of the Colts’ Week 13 game and for them to list him week-to-week. That could mean a one-week absence or a multi-week absence. We’ll see how this plays out.
Romeo Doubs Injury Update - Concussion
This is going to be a tough one to come back from considering the Packers play on Thursday, but Romeo Doubs was forced from the Packers’ Week 12 game with a concussion and did not return. He’s officially in protocol and although head coach Matt LaFleur said there is a chance he plays on Thursday, it’s unlikely.
Brandin Cooks Injury Update - Knee
We haven’t seen Brandin Cooks since Week 3, but it looks as if he’s going to make his return on Thanksgiving Day per EVP, Stephen Jones.
Cedric Tillman Injury Update - Concussion
There is still no timetable for Cedric Tillman’s return as he remains in concussion protocol per the Browns.
NFL Week 13 Injury Report: Tight Ends
Jake Ferguson Injury Update - Concussion
Per Stephen Jones, EVP of the Dallas Cowboys, it seems far-fetched to think Jake Ferguson will be able to return on Thursday to face the Giants. It looks like it’s going to be another Luke Schoonmaker week.
Ja'Tavion Sanders Injury Update - Neck
With how scary things looked after Ja'Tavion Sanders was carted off the field on Sunday, good news is coming out of Carolina as it’s not as bad as anticipated. In fact, Sanders was in the building on Monday and the team is evaluating the next steps, but he avoided serious injury.
Player News
Packers signed WR Bo Melton, RB Emanuel Wilson, and P Daniel Whelan to their exclusive rights free agent tenders.
Melton caught on with the Packers in 2023, totaling 16 receptions for 218 yards and a touchdown in five games. He added eight receptions for 91 yards in 17 games last season. Melton will continue to be a depth piece in an already-deep Packers wide receiver room. Wilson has also been with the Packers for two seasons and rushed for 502 yards and four touchdowns as Josh Jacobs’ immediate backup last season. He will compete with MarShawn Lloyd for that role again. Whelan is the team’s punter and will be back for 2025. All three signed their exclusive rights free agent tender and will essentially be on one-year contracts this season.
Seahawks re-signed Johnathan Hankins to a one-year contract.
Hankins hasn’t had a PFF run defense grade above 52.4 since 2020 and is primarily called on to play early downs. He turned 33 in March. He’ll be a complimentary piece behind Jarran Reed and Byron Murphy II if he makes the roster out of training camp.
Chargers placed the UFA tender on RB J.K. Dobbins.
This gives the Chargers exclusive negotiating rights if he does not sign with a team by July 22 or the first 2025 NFL training camp opens, whichever comes first. The tag is mainly useful for compensatory pick reasons as Dobbins will still count towards Los Angeles’ haul in the formula if signed before then. The Chargers currently do not project to add a pick in 2026 per Over The Cap’s Nick Korte.
49ers signed OT D.J. Humphries.
Humphries played in only two games for the Chiefs last year as he spent most of the season rehabbing a late 2023 torn ACL on his own. He wasn’t appreciably good in either of those games, but he was rusty and does have a history of better than that. Entering his age-32 season for the 49ers, he’ll probably be trying to win the right tackle job opposite Trent Williams in training camp.
Patriots released LS Joe Cardona.
The team selected his replacement, Julian Ashby, in the seventh round of the draft. This snapper of balls who are longer than usual is only 33, and it’s possible he picks up his career elsewhere. There aren’t too many remaining Patriots Regimes in the wild in 2025, but Nick Caserio does still run the Texans and they let Jon Weeks walk this offseason so that’s one speculative fit.
NewOrleans.Football’s Nick Underhill said he would be “flabbergasted” if Derek Carr played for the Saints this year.
“I would have trouble understanding why you would allow that to happen, you’re trying to build a new culture, you can’t let that guy ... you just got a rookie QB, this is the example you’re going to give him,” Underhill continued. Both Underhill and Mike Triplett believe Tyler Shough will be starting for the Saints in Week 1, with Underhill saying he had “80 percent or higher odds to start 80 percent of the games this year.” Shough would be an uninspiring superflex pick, perhaps a QB3, but given how things have played out with Carr over the past months it sure doesn’t seem like the Saints have a reason to want to continue this relationship. Mickey Loomis literally asked reporters to stop asking him Carr questions at his pre-draft press conference.
