How To Bet On The NFL Draft
The NFL Draft is a popular fan gambling phenomenon with bets that are different from others in that they are uncertain with respect to team selections. Player over/unders (e.g., draft position), drafting players with specific numbers, team selections, and numbers by position are some popular bets.
For example, Cam Ward is an odds-on favorite at odds of -20,000 to become a No. 1 overall choice, and bets on Travis Hunter are -600 to be a No. 2. Bettors also have "middle" bets, such as betting on a draft position over 9.5 and also as a top-10 choice, able to cash on both bets when they become a No. 10 choice.
FanDuel Sportsbook has wide-ranging draft betting, and bettors would be wise to keep an ear on draft rumors because lines will move wide—remember that Will Levis rumor in 2022 that caused lines to move.
New bettors would do best to stick to team-specific bets, such as a team's first choice position, particularly if you're a hard-nosed team fan. Remember to bet responsibly and check out sites like DraftKings or BetMGM for new odds.
NFL Draft Pick Projections & Predictions
The 2025 NFL Draft is shaping up to be unconventional, as there is not much consensus past first overall. The projections below are derived from expert mock drafts and betting lines:
- No. 1 Pick
Miami quarterback Cam Ward is a shoo-in to take over the open spot at QB for the Tennessee Titans as Will Levis has played below expectation. A 39-touchdown pass and 4,313-yard quarterback at the college level, Ward is the safe choice.
Other Choices: Colorado two-way WR/CB Travis Hunter is a -1000 bet to be Cleveland's No. 2 choice because of his versatility, with some drawing comparisons to Shohei Ohtani. Penn State pass rusher Abdul Carter is -650 to become a No. 3 draft choice with New York's Giants.
Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty is a fashionable No. 6 to the Las Vegas Raiders at -120 odds. QB Uncertainty: Ward is a shoo-in, but Ole Miss' Jaxson Dart and Colorado's Shedeur Sanders are X-factors.
A few mocks have him dropping out of Round 1, others have the New Orleans Saints trading into No. 8 or No. 9 to acquire him (+175 odds). Two to four QBs are forecast in Round 1, a long way from six in 2024's top 12.
- Surprise NFL Draft Picks
A few experts like Eric Edholm have as high as four running backs going in Round 1, with Jeanty potentially as high as No. 5 to Jacksonville. Tight ends like Michigan's Colston Loveland are a group that may get a boost, with as high as three such players going in Round 1.
- 2025 NFL Draft Sleepers
Round 1-type prospects like Texas A&M's EDGE Nic Scourton, Ohio State's Emeka Egbuka, and Michigan's Will Johnson are showcased as steals with an immediate impact. The depth at defensive tackle, edge rusher, and running back is balanced out by a shallow QB and wide receiver class, making team fits and trades a consideration.
The Giants and Browns are reported to be inclined to trade down from spots No. 2 and 3, and that would create havoc on this draft board early on. The 2025 NFL Draft in Green Bay will be full of drama from start to finish, from Titans' guaranteed draft of Cam Ward to trade thrills and value steals.
Player News
Dolphins signed No. 13 overall pick DT Kenneth Grant to a four-year contract.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that Grant will sign his contract today. The former Michigan defensive tackle is expected to fill a major void left by Christian Wilkins, who left for the Raiders in the 2024 offseason. Grant totaled 32 tackles, three sacks, and seven TFLs in his final season at Michigan and excelled at stopping the run while also generating 27 pressures in his final season, per PFF.
Beat reporter John Hendrix reports that free agent WR Donovan Peoples-Jones is among the 16 players that the Saints will host for their rookie minicamp.
Peoples-Jones last played regular season snaps with the Lions back in 2023, when he caught 13-of-24 targets for 155 yards. He is highly unlikely to return to fantasy relevance at this point but could perhaps sign on as a special teams contributor.
Titans signed fourth-round pick WR Elic Ayomanor to a four-year contract.
Ayomanor will now begin learning behind Calvin Ridley. Although Ayomanor is unlikely to find a meaningful role in year one, dynasty managers should note his status as training camp gets underway this summer. The former Stanford receiver flashed big-play ability in his two college seasons.
Buccaneers signed seventh-round pick WR Tez Johnson to a four-year contract.
Johnson will serve as a rotational deep-threat option for Baker Mayfield. His thin frame (5'10/154) simply does not lend itself to the repeated hits one incurs in a full-time role. Johnson did earn 100-plus targets in his two seasons at Oregon, though. His big-play style make him a better fit in best ball for now, pending any major on-field breakthroughs.
Giants waived DT Casey Rogers.
Rogers was a 2024 undrafted free agent and logged 33 defensive snaps for the Giants in his rookie season. He is credited with zero tackles and/or sacks. He may find his way onto another roster as a practice squad option.
Vikings signed third-round pick WR Tai Felton to a four-year contract.
Felton is quietly in play to challenge Vikings No. 3 WR Jalen Nailor in training camp. Nailor (5'11/190) caught 28-of-42 targets for 414 yards and six touchdowns in his first season as a starter last year, with the latter category buoying his fantasy productivity. Felton (6'1/183), meanwhile, caught 96-of-143 targets for 1,119 yards and nine touchdowns while averaging 2.32 yards per route run in his final college season. Fantasy managers should monitor Felton’s training camp reports this summer, as he could have a matchup-based WR5 role if everything falls into place.
