Jaguars traded up with the Browns to select Colorado WR/CB Travis Hunter with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Cleveland will get the 2025 5th overall pick, 36th overall pick, 126th overall pick, and a 2026 first rounder from Jacksonville. It’s a big price to pay, but one that could pay off as Hunter joins elite WR Brian Thomas Jr. as legit weapons for Trevor Lawrence. The Jaguars received the 2nd overall pick, 104th overall pick (4th round), and 200th overall pick (6th round) in the trade with the Browns. Hunter was rated as the No. 1 overall prospect from the 2022 prep cycle, but opted to attend FCS Jackson State where Deion Sanders was the head coach. He followed Coach Prime to Colorado and had to make some adjustments in year one, allowing a 56.6% completion rate and five touchdowns while he cut his teeth at the Power Four level. Last year Hunter put it all together posting a pristine 90.3 coverage grade which ranked second-best in the P4, to go with 13 stops four interceptions and a dirt-low 39.9 NFL passer rating against. The reigning Heisman Trophy winner excelled with a phenomenal 35.1% forced incompletion rate and 0.46 yards per coverage snap while also pitching in with 13 stops. His ball skills in coverage are premium, which you might expect from the class’ top receiving prospect. The fluidity of his hips and acceleration to drive on the ball and create disruption at the catch point is the best in class, as he transitions freely and easily from backpedal to a dead sprint. He could stand to clean up an elevated 14.3% missed tackle rate, but he only missed 8.8% of tackles in 2023 and 0% in 2022, so that’s not a big concern. Hunter is a generational two-way player the likes of which are rarely seen in the modern day NFL.
Cleveland’s Mary Kay Cabot reports that the Browns “are believed to have something cooking at No. 2.”
A day ago, it was thought that the Browns would select Colorado WR/CB Travis Hunter with the No. 2 overall pick, but it is now clear that “teams are calling” and the Browns are “listening.” Cabot advises that we “strap in” as we wait for further developments. We aren’t going anywhere. Stay tuned.
The Athletic’s Jeff Howe reports that “the Jaguars have been actively trying to move up from No. 5" and that “they could be interested in moving as high as No. 2.”
If the Jaguars really are attempting to move up to the No. 2 overall pick, they are presumably doing so with Colorado WR/CB Travis Hunter in mind. Hunter has been linked to the Browns at No. 2 for some time, but draft-day reports now suggest the Browns may be open to trading back. Only time will tell.
The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reports the Browns are “actively listening” to offers for the No. 2 overall pick.
Per Russini, “many believe (Browns GM Andrew Berry is) willing to move a few spots back.” Alrighty then. The Browns apparently want to improve upon their four top-100 selections, but Hunter is of course a unicorn prospect who can immediately help on both sides of the ball. It would signal a distinct lack of belief in the prospect, or at least the idea he can handle both corner and wideout. Reports earlier Thursday have had the Jags eager to move up to No. 2. Something might actually be cooking here.
