2023 NFL DFS Week 14 Contrarian Plays: Top DraftKings & FanDuel Picks

Week 14 of the NFL season is here and with it comes an 11-game main slate on DraftKings and FanDuel. This slate is loaded with top tier talent and teams such as Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Christian McCaffrey, Justin Jefferson and Travis Kelce. While its certainly OK to roster players figure that figure to be popular this week, the point of this article is to find some contrarian plays with similar upside that can help differentiate you in your GPP contests this week. So, with that said, let's look at some players projected to be less than 10% rostered this week.

Top FanDuel & DraftKings NFL DFS Week 14 Contrarian Plays
Josh Allen, QB Buffalo Bills
Let's kick this one off with a bang! The top priced QB on the slate this week is expected to be less than five percent rostered this week in large field GPP tournaments. This is quite surprising seeing as we are looking at a matchup against the Chiefs that has a slate high 48.5 game total with just a one-point spread. Generally, we are looking to get exposure to these types of matchups and definitely the QB's in these matchups. Allen is coming off of a game where he had four total touchdowns, two rushing and two passing. That kind of elite upside can be the difference maker you need to take down a GPP tournament this weekend.
David Montgomery, RB Detroit Lions
Yes, I know the Bears have had an improved run defense over the past few weeks but Montgomery continues to have a nose for the end zone and the Bears secondary is not likely to completely shut down the Lions passing attack which means Montgomery should continue to get his fair share of carries in the red zone. If you are looking for another reason to play Montgomery then consider the narrative here this week as he returns to Chicago for the first time as a visiting player after the Bears let him walk in free agency this past offseason. Montgomery found the end zone against the Bears in their first meeting this season and I'd expect at least another touchdown performance here in Week 14.
Mike Evans, WR Tampa Bay Buccaneers
I honestly can't figure this one out. Nearly every week this season we've seen Mike Evans in this contrarian article because nobody ever plays the man. He's already gone over 1,000 yards for the season and has 10 touchdowns. He was the first person I put in my lineup this week with Tampa Bay taking on the Atlanta Falcons.
Gerald Everett, TE Los Angeles Chargers
With Joshua Palmer ruled out again the Chargers passing offense will continue to spread around the targets once we get past Keenan Allen. Everett has seen a handful of targets each week since Palmer went down with the injury and the Broncos are a team that has struggled against opposing tight ends. We know that Everett has the ability to make plays, having catches over 25+ yards in each of the last two games and he's even seen some increased red zone usage of late as well which only adds to the appeal for me this week.
Player News
Kendre Miller rushed six times for 21 yards in the Saints’ preseason Week 2 game against the Jaguars.
Miller played 5-of-5 snaps on the first drive, critically remaining on-field for third down. Ultimately, he and Cam Akers split first-team snaps 14-to-7, with Akers playing the remaining four third downs. Miller is astonishingly credited with five missed tackles forced. Akers rushed twice for two yards and caught 3-of-3 targets for 11 yards.
Spencer Rattler completed 18-of-24 passes for 199 yards, one touchdown and one interception and rushed three times for 19 yards and one two-point conversion in the Saints’ preseason Week 2 game against the Jaguars.
Rattler looked better than Tyler Shough did, though Rattler had the benefit of facing backups. The Saints are in an unenviable situation. Their rookie quarterback is failing to outplay their preferred backup. Fortunately, fantasy managers need not draft either player in re-draft formats.
Rashid Shaheed caught 3-of-3 targets for 15 yards in the Saints’ preseason Week 2 game against the Jaguars.
Shaheed played all 18 first-team reps alongside Tyler Shough and Chris Olave. He kicked inside, tying for a first-team-high seven snaps lined up in the slot. Adding quick-hitting layup routes from the slot will go a long way toward stabilizing Shaheed’s weekly scoring. His 13th-round PPR ADP makes for an easy click.
Chris Olave caught 2-of-4 targets for 12 yards in the Saints’ preseason Week 2 game against the Jaguars.
Olave was on the field for 18-of-18 first-team snaps with Tyler Shough, which is a great sign for his ankle health. His concussion history, coupled with the Saints’ questionable quarterback situation, enhances his risk, but fantasy managers are advised to continue drafting Olave as a high-upside seventh-round pick.
Jordan Schultz reports that the Commanders “have been shopping RB Brian Robinson Jr. to teams around the NFL.”
Robinson averaged fewer than 4.0 yards per carry in five of his final seven games last year, and the Commanders are said to be focused on creating more explosive plays this season. Enter Day 3 rookie RB Jacory Croskey-Merritt, who has steadily earned the coaching staff’s praise through spring and summer practices. The team also has RB Chris Rodriguez Jr. under contract this year, who boasts a career 4.9 YPC average through two seasons operating as a rotational rusher. Robinson is scheduled to enter free agency at the end of the year. If the front office feels good about Croskey-Merritt and Rodriguez, it makes sense for them to send Robinson away in exchange for future draft capital or a young player at a position of need.
Brian Thomas Jr. caught 2-of-4 targets for eight yards and rushed once for two yards in the Jaguars’ preseason Week 2 game against the Saints.
Thomas’ creative preseason usage continued in this one. He took 6-of-16 snaps lined up in the slot, with one such play resulting in a sneaky handoff. The talented, young receiver is a WR1 entering year two as a pro.
