NBA Best Bets Today, 12/29: Picks, Predictions & Player Props - Sunday
The brooms were out at the Fantasy Alarm Betting Bunglow, as NBA Best Bets was perfect yesterday. Three of three bets were successful and the units were stacked. Those are the expectations around the bungalow though, we like to keep a clean house.
The Hawks dismantled the Heat and easily covered the -1.5 spread. Nikola Vucevic didn’t make one first half three-point field goal, but The Well delivered by sinking two in the second half. De’Aaron Fox did not earn a win last night, but he did deliver over 5.5 points in the first quarter. Meatloaf is nutritious and delicious for our bankroll, but sweeping is always a better feeling.
NBA Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 12/29
So we have accurately predicted five bets in a row, now what? Now, we go for eight in a row. There are six games today, and from those six games a betting sampler is offered for the last Sunday of 2024.
Grizzlies vs Thunder Parlay Prediction: OKC Moneyline & Total Under 230.0 Points (+167 on Bet365)
The best offensive team and the best defensive team in the Association square off today. It just so happens that they are the first and second ranked team in the Western Conference too. It is the classic battle of which will is stronger, ‘the unstoppable force or the immovable object’?
This is a straight bet same game parlay that is reliant more on the Oklahoma City Thunder than the Memphis Grizzlies. Anytime there is a 230 point total in an Oklahoma City match, something should be signaling as incorrect. Even with the highest scoring team in the Association as the opponent.
The Thunder only allow 103.2 points per game, although they do average 114.9 from their offense. This match could be hyped up on averages, but should remain a defensive match at the Paycom Center. Isaiah Hartenstein is playing some of the best basketball of his career, and points by the rim will not come easy for Memphis.
The Grizzlies also have Ja Morant dealing with a AC sprain which will keep him out. In addition, Marcus Smart, Santi Aldama, and GG Jackson are out as well. Brandon Clarke is listed as day-to-day and that could put a lot of minutes on rookie Zach Edey if he does not play.
Expecting a 230 point game raises a few eyebrows from followers of the Western Conference, and the under is the bet to play. Oklahoma City is the best team in the West and playing an injured second place team. They should make a statement win with great defense. Put a unit on the parlay.
Pacers vs Celtics Prediction: IND +11.5 (-110 on Bet365)
The Indiana Pacers were absolutely embarrassed in their most recent game. They lost 142-105 against the Boston Celtics at TD Garden. That is a little misleading though, as the Pacers had a schedule from Hades this past week.
They played the Golden State Warriors on the road the 23rd, then a quick home game against the first place Thunder the 26th, followed up with a back-to-back on TD Garden in Boston. No wonder they played so terribly.
The Pacers played the Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals, and after a couple days rest should look more like that team, than the one in the previous game. After all Head Coach Rick Carlisle still has to have friends as a former Boston Celtic champion, who treated the Pacers with much needed rest and recovery.
Expect a different Pacers team than the one that was on the court two days ago. They have a full roster with only Obi Toppin listed as day-to-day. +11.5 points is too much for as good an organization as the Indiana Pacers, take advantage and wager a unit on them to cover.
NBA Player Props & Other Picks Today, 12/29
To round out the betting sampler is a player prop that seems as off as the previous two bets mentioned. Fantasy Alarm seeks its third win on a familiar face north of the border.
Hawks vs Raptors Prediction: Scottie Barnes Over 20.5 Points (-115 on Bet365)
Over the past two seasons Scottie Barnes is a player that there seems to always be a betting angle to expose. He is without question one of the best players in the Association and unlike some elite players, he has to be pulled off the court. There are no concerns of load management for Mr. Barnes.
The Toronto Raptors have lost nine games in a row, and have a great opportunity to end that streak today. They host the Atlanta Hawks who have a below .500 road record. The Hawks are also playing in the second of back-to-back games and had international travel in between.
This should benefit the prediction of over 20.5 points for Barnes. Not that he needs much help, he has made a point of emphasis to be a scorer. Since his return from his second injury this season, Barnes has attempted 15 or more field goals in three of four games.
He has scored 26 and 24 points in his last two games and should take advantage of a team that allows 119.2 points per game. Put a unit on Barnes to cover his point line against a tired Hawks team.
