NBA Best Bets & Player Props January 5: Trae Young and Tyrese Haliburton Square Off in Indiana
Happy Friday everyone! Fantasy Alarm NBA Best Bets is looking to end the week on a high note with a complete sweep. There are fourteen games in action today, which indicates all but two teams are playing and the lines have been double-checked to lead us to four bets today. Because an extra one to start the weekend is almost always fun.
There are two teams in back-to-back games the Denver Nuggets and Golden State Warriors. They played last night and Nikola Jokic hit a last-second three from half-court to win, it was a late game and it could be a good angle to play against their spread live once the rotation is decided. For today there are two parlays and two prop bets. One of the parlays is a same-game parlay made of two proposition bets on two of the highest-scoring guards in the NBA, it is today’s Bet of the night.
NBA Bet of the Night
Same Game Parlay: Tyrese Haliburton & Trae Young 25+ Points Each (+100 at BetMGM)
This parlay has been teased down even though they both could go over their set point line. Tyrese Haliburton is at 27.5, and Trae Young is set at 28.5, while Young is averaging twenty-eight points per game, Haliburton is averaging 24.9. This teased down line gives some safety and still comes in at even odds. The Atlanta Hawks and Indiana Pacers allow the second and third most points per game in the Association, 123.2 and 124.6. Inversely the Indiana Pacers are the highest scoring team 126.4, and the Atlanta Hawks are the third highest scoring team with 122.8.
The total for this match is set at 262 points tonight, which is the highest total tonight by 23 points. You do not see that line that high often, and it could be the highest line of the season. Young and Haliburton have the highest lines and should score the bulk of their team’s points. Trust this teased down the line to cover in the highest total of the night, if not the season.
NBA Parlay of the Night
2-leg Parlay: Philadelphia 76ers & Minnesota Timberwolves Money Line (+198 at DraftKings)
This straight bet parlay takes two of the better teams in their conference playing against teams in the middle of the conference. The Philadelphia 76ers are in third place and the New York Knicks are in eighth place in the Eastern Conference. The Minnesota Timberwolves are in first and the Houston Rockets are in eighth in the Western Conference.
The spreads are set at -6 for Philadelphia and -3.5 for Minnesota, which are both obtainable for the favorites. There is also a 50% boost on DraftKings for the NBA today, it does have a max of $25.00 for a bet. Putting the boost on this line moves it to +198, and if you place a wager for the max bet, it will return $74.51, almost doubling your money. With the moneyline options it allows for cushion should the spread not be reached, and has wonderful odds for the favored team to win.
NBA Prop Bets of the Night
Jonas Valanciunas OVER 9.5 Rebounds (+100 at DraftKings)
This is the third positive odds bet of the day, a rare occurrence for the NBA Best Bets column. Jonas Valanciunas burned us on his under bet earlier this week, and the bookies returned with a positive unit on his over for rebounding. The Clippers are a good collective rebounding team, but Ivica Zubac is not the rebounder or paint presence that Valanciunas is. Paul George and Kawai Leonard are good rebounders… when they want to be.
They will also be matched up with Brandon Ingram and Zion Willamson, two big forwards that may make it difficult to attack the glass like normal. Valanciunas' minutes have been going down but this should be a close game and he should play more tonight.
Taurean Prince UNDER 10.5 Points (-120 at DraftKings)
The only negative odds bet of the slate today, and for good reason too. Although 10.5 points is not many for a starter, particularly a starter who is averaging over thirty minutes per game, Taurean Prince is having difficulty reaching that number. T. Prince even scored zero points in their last game. He only averages 9.8 points per game, and has gone under this line in his last four of six games.
The Memphis Grizzlies are playing the Los Angeles Lakers today, and the Lakers are still figuring out their rotation and starting lineup… it’s over a third of the way through the season, in addition to that the Grizzlies allow the fourth-fewest points to opposing small forwards. T. Prince may see fewer minutes and be asked to help double team Ja Morant, which could fatigue him more. Trust the only under of today to come through.
