2022-23 Fantasy Basketball Waiver Wire Week 22: Killian Hayes Is A Top Pickup Amid Pistons Injuries
Welcome to another NBA week as we pinpoint some of the top fantasy basketball waiver wire pickups for your lineups. There are a lot of fantasy basketball leagues that don’t have a maximum number of roster moves that teams can make. If that's the case, you must take advantage and be very active on the waiver wire. If your team is dealing with players on the NBA injury report, you must live on the waiver wire – even if that means dropping a player that’s been helpful all season. It’s about what players can help your fantasy basketball lineup right now as the NBA regular season comes to a close. With NBA lineups changing every day due to injuries or resting players, the fantasy basketball rankings and daily NBA projections can change at any point. Here are a few more players to look to grab from your fantasy basketball waiver wire as you prepare for your fantasy basketball playoffs.
Fantasy Basketball NBA Waiver Wire Pickups
Killian Hayes, G, Detroit Pistons – 43% rostered
The Pistons are dealing with multiple injuries and Hayes should pick up more usage for the rest of the season. We can’t always count on him for double-digit scoring, but he has 11 points or more in four of his last seven contests. He has good agility and drives nicely to the basket and runs the pick-and-roll very effectively with his big men. He’s feisty on defense swiping 1.4 balls per game. He anticipates the screen coming and either calls out for another player to assist him or knows to step up or back depending on where the ball is on the court to avoid the screen. Alec Burks has been dealing with an injured foot and we don’t know when he’ll be back on the court. Even when Jaden Ivey returns to action, Hayes should still get plenty of minutes and time with the ball. He’s dropped six dimes per battle and has pulled down four or more boards in three of his last five matchups.
Josh Okogie SG, SF Phoenix Suns – 25% rostered
Kevin Durant being out gives Okogie more life and certainly more involvement in the Suns' offense. He’ll be the prioritized shooter over Torrey Craig who will continue starting until Durant is back on the floor. Phoenix has a few good battles coming up against the Warriors, Magic, and Thunder and Okogie should be able to put up decent scoring numbers in those games. He’s taken 10 or more shots in three of his last four contests. He’s been grabbing a few long rebounds as well from the top of the paint posting four or more in five of his previous seven games. Okogie has good speed and can help the Suns' offense move quickly down the court. He’s also grabbed steals in five of his last eight outings with four multi-steal games. He’s been swatting away shots as well and can play multiple positions on the floor and until we see Durant back in the lineup, Okogie should play 30-plus minutes.
Joe Ingles, F, Milwaukee Bucks – 8% rostered
After seeing Ingles play at least 26 minutes in 4 straight games, let’s give him a whirl for a couple of matchups, especially as he’s shown that he can produce more than just points. His shot attempts are nothing to write home about, but we’ve seen him run the offense a bit more, post four dimes or more in three straight, and pull down five-plus rebounds in both of his last two games. He’s also stolen the ball in seven of his previous nine outings. The veteran Ingles is on a Bucks team that features a ton of depth, but his hustle and defense allow Milwaukee to put a little less pressure on Khris Middleton, who has had trouble staying healthy, and Jrue Holiday. View Ingles as a short-term solution with a full slate of games for this week. If his minutes drop, release him. On the scoring front, Ingles has posted at least 12 points in four of his last six games. Ingles nets 1.7 three-pointers per game and shoots over 39 percent from beyond the arc.
Isaiah Livers, SG/SF, Detroit Pistons – 15% rostered
With Marvin Bagley III on the shelf next to his teammates Hamidou Diallo and Isaiah Stewart, Livers will be utilized more. In fact, Livers sees a four percent usage increase with the current active Pistons not including Bojan Bogdanovic who’s been in and out of the lineup. Livers plays four games this week and we’ve seen him play no fewer than 31 minutes in each of his last four battles. He’s shot the ball at least 12 times in three of his last four contests and scored in double figures in all three of those games during that span. He’s been rebounding more and he’s posted multiple steals and at least one block in two of his last three outings. Livers will toggle between both forward positions as James Wiseman and Jalen Duren will handle center for the Pistons. Livers will continue to play more minutes down the stretch and will be asked to take more shots even if Bogdanovic plays.
Nick Richards, C, Charlotte Hornets – 35% rostered
We don’t know how much longer Mark Williams will miss with an injured thumb, but Richards should still hit the 20-minute mark for most of the rest of the Hornets' games. He’s played at least 29 minutes in three straight games and just scorched the Cavaliers (without Jarrett Allen) for 15 points, 12 rebounds, and three blocks. He’s posted double-doubles in two of his last three battles and blocked 10 shots total over his last three games. We’ll have to take Richards game-by-game when it comes to his fantasy value. If we find out that Williams is active, give it a game of trust with Richards to see if he can still use his momentum to put up production even playing 20-23 minutes. While Williams is out, the Hornets will continue to rely heavily on Richards, especially with Mason Plumlee traded away. The Hornets have surprisingly been one of the most efficient teams defensively since the all-star break.
Talen Horton-Tucker, SG/SF, Utah Jazz – 46% rostered
Even though the Jazz only play twice this week, they’ll have full slates for the rest of the season and even when Collin Sexton is finally ready to return to action, Horton-Tucker has done enough to still get a true rotation commitment from the Jazz coaches. He’s scored 21 points or more in each of his last three games and he’s dropped at least four dimes in four of his last five battles. He’s averaged over 19 points per game over his last two weeks of action. Horton-Tucker can play multiple positions and he's done a good job running the offense at times. The Jazz put more trust in him after Mike Conley was traded and Sexton and Jordan Clarkson got hurt. He’s hit the 30-minute mark in six of his last eight battles. He’s pulled down six or more rebounds in five of his last nine matchups. Sexton seems to be week-to-week for now and Horton-Tucker will continue to spend more time on the ball.
Royce O’Neale, SG/SF, Brooklyn Nets – 34% rostered
O’Neale is mainly a bailout shooter for the Nets. He can bring up the ball and run the offense as well. He’ll sit at the arc waiting to be fed and the Nets have been messing with their lineup a little bit and O’Neale has scored double figures in four of his last five contests. O’Neale shoots over 39% from beyond the arc this season. His defense will keep his minutes high, and he even posted two double-doubles in his last three contests. He’s grabbed no fewer than six boards in six of his last seven outings. O’Neale swipes about a ball per game for the year and has stolen at least one ball in five of his last six outings. He’ll dish a few assists as well and he’s been producing enough to warrant an end-of-the-bench fantasy basketball roster spot. He’s played 29 minutes or more in four of his last five contests.
