The Raptors waived James Wiseman.
Wiseman went down for the season with an Achilles tear back in October. The 23-year-old center was traded from the Pacers to the Raptors ahead of Thursday’s trade deadline. Now the Raptors have waived Wiseman despite his contract including a team option for next season. Toronto currently has two open roster spots while the future for the former No. 2 overall pick remains unclear after stops in Golden State, Detroit, Indiana and Toronto.
According to a report from ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Pacers are sending James Wiseman and cash to the Raptors.
Wiseman played in just one game before tearing his Achilles and won’t suit up this season. He’ll have a chance to compete for frontcourt minutes next year for a Raptors team that’s looking to establish its identity.
According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, James Wiseman has been diagnosed with a ruptured left Achilles tendon.
The diagnosis is a brutal development for Wiseman, who suffered a non-contact injury during the first half of Wednesday’s win over the Pistons. With Isaiah Jackson sidelined due to a strained groin, the Pacers may have to use Obi Toppin at the five whenever starter Myles Turner needs a breather. Also, Jarace Walker may see additional time at the four after the Pacers used him at small forward during summer league play.
James Wiseman (left calf injury) will not return against the Pistons on Wednesday.
They’re calling it a calf injury, but there is certainly a chance that it ends up being a far more severe injury. However, with Isaiah Jackson (groin) already sidelined for this game, Pascal Siakam and Jarace Walker may have to spend some time at center when Myles Turner is off the floor.
