MLB DFS Value Plays April 1: Top DraftKings & FanDuel Picks

This April Fools day gives us a pretty full main slate of MLB DFS action over on FanDuel and DraftKings on this fine Saturday. There are a few games with weather concerns, so make sure you have our MLB DFS Weather Center bookmarked and that you check it prior to first pitch. Many of these games are expected to have the winds blowing out, so we could see some high-scoring games on this slate. While a few aces are toeing the rubber today like Spencer Strider and Brandon Woodruff, you don’t have to roll with one of them in your MLB DFS lineups. There are three options that are less priced that I believe can pay off big for your DFS lineups today. Spencer Steer is arguably my favorite value play of the day, as the winds are blowing out in Cincinnati and he’s facing a southpaw. While building out your lineups, be sure to check out all of our great MLB DFS tools, including our MLB lineups page, MLB daily projections, and our MLB DFS Optimizer.
MLB DFS Value Pitchers
Patrick Sandoval, Los Angeles Angels
The Angels are heavy favorites today, and Sandoval has thrown the baseball well of late. He posted a 1.23 ERA across two starts in the World Baseball Classic and this Oakland lineup is nothing to be frightened by. He has a 1.84 ERA in his career against Oakland, and in the four starts he’s made in Oakland, his ERA is 0.87. Historically, Oakland hasn’t figured him out, Vegas is telling us that the Angels should win this game, and Sandoval should be able to give us five innings, five strikeouts, and a win. He can be your lone arm on FanDuel today.
Nick Lodolo, Cincinnati Reds
I’m really at a crossroads today. Lodolo was one of my guys for fantasy baseball this year, but the Pirates are my favorite team! However, we can’t ignore the numbers. The Pirates had the second-highest strikeout rate against left-handed pitching last season. This spring, Lodolo ramped up to about full capacity, and he posted a 2.45 ERA with 20 strikeouts across 14.2 IP in March. The walks were a bit out of control in spring, but Lodolo will get that ironed out. I like his price slightly better on DraftKings, where he is the eighth-highest priced starter, compared to being the fifth-highest pitcher on FanDuel.
Honorable Mention:
MLB DFS Value Hitters
Spencer Steer, Cincinnati Reds
Steer homered on Opening Day and now gets to face Rich Hill in the second game of the year. In the minors, his numbers against southpaws were better than against righties and he’s going to hit second in the lineup for today’s game, which is at Great American Ball Park may I remind you. Steer is very affordable on both sites and makes for an intriguing value option at third base.
Michael Conforto, San Francisco Giants
The wind is going to be blowing out in New York, and I’ll take a swing with Conforto going up against a right-hander. Despite a poor spring from a batting average perspective, Conforto did manage to hit four home runs and one double 47 at-bats this spring, and Schmidt posted a 5.60 ERA over his last five spring starts. With those winds blowing out, we could see some long balls in this game, and I’ll take a chance on Conforto being one that puts a ball in the bleachers, so long as the rain holds off.
Nick Gordon, Minnesota Twins
The first of two left-handed hitters for Minnesota here today! Lyles’ kryptonite has been left-handed hitting, and while Gordon didn’t have the best spring, Lyles is a familiar foe. Gordon is 3-for-4 with a home run in his career against Lyles, and against right-handed pitching in 2022, Gordon hit .289 with a .341 wOBA and .465 SLG. Minnesota has one of the higher implied run totals on the board, so expect parts of this offense to be popular today.
Riley Greene, Detroit Tigers
I can’t get behind the entire Detroit offense today, but Greene makes for a nice one-off play. Zach Eflin has allowed a .513 SLG for his career against left-handed hitters, and lefties hit him at a .277 clip with a .356 wOBA last season alone. While the guys around him may not be of much help, Greene could rack up the points today, whether it be by leaving the yard for the first time this season, or reaching base a couple of times and getting his first steal of the year.
Max Kepler, Minnesota Twins
Kepler has homered off Jordan Lyles in his career, and while the park isn’t the best for power, Jordan Lyles’ kryptonite has been left-handed hitters. Lyles struggled in his last two spring starts, walking nine batters in 7.1 IP. From 2020-2022, left-handed hitters have slashed .273/.346/.481 against Lyles, not to mention a 1.7 HR/9.

Orioles manager Brandon Hyde told reporters that Zach Eflin (lat) is likely to return and start Sunday against the Angels
It was assumed that Eflin would be back this weekend, but now we have a concrete date. The 31-year-old may not be at full strength after throwing fewer than 60 pitches in his rehab start, but the Orioles feel confident enough to have the right-hander back on the bump for the series finale against the Angels.
Riley Greene is not in the lineup for the first game of a doubleheader against the Rockies on Thursday.
Greene will get a break and likely return to the lineup for the second game of the twin-billing. Zach McKinstry will get the start in left field while Greene rests.
Yu Darvish (elbow) is facing live hitters on Thursday.
Darvish has been throwing bullpen sessions and traveled to the team’s complex in Arizona to face live hitters on Thursday. It will be his first time facing live batters since a spring training appearance on March 13th. He will likely need a few sessions like this before the Padres can map out a rehab appearance timeline for him.
Adael Amador is starting at second base and batting ninth for the Rockies on Thursday.
Amador has now started three of the last four games at second base for the Rockies. He’s gone just 7-for-43 this season with 15 strikeouts in 16 games. He’s just 22 years old, so there is plenty of time for him to adjust to the MLB level, but he doesn’t need to be on redraft radars right now.
Jackson Holliday is playing second base and batting second for the Orioles on Thursday against the Twins.
With Cedric Mullins sitting out on Thursday, Gunnar Henderson will bat lead off, and Holliday will jump up from sixth in the order to second. Holliday is riding a hot streak right now, and the Orioles are taking advantage. This is likely just a one-game sample with no Mullins or Adley Rutschman in the lineup, but Rutschman has been struggling, so perhaps it could become a more permanent spot in the lineup for Holliday moving forward.
Endy Rodriguez (finger) had his splint removed this week.
Rodriguez suffered a lacerated right index finger on April 14th. Now that he is out of his splint, he “is playing catch and doing a slightly modified swing.” Once he can progress to taking full swings, we’ll have a better sense of the timeline for his return.
