Anthony Volpe (shoulder) is not in the lineup for Sunday’s series finale against the Rays.

Volpe felt a “pop” in his left shoulder while diving for a ground ball during the late stages of Saturday’s contest against the Rays and is slated to undergo further evaluation and testing this weekend to determine the severity of the issue. There should be some clarity on the 24-year-old shortstop’s status once he undergoes an MRI to determine whether he’s suffered any structural damage. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for the moment. It’ll be Oswald Peraza taking over at shortstop on Sunday afternoon in his place.

Volpe felt something “pop” in his shoulder, but the good news is that he’s already undergone an MRI that came back clean. The 24-year-old shortstop will likely be out of the lineup Sunday, and his status for the upcoming week will be largely determined by how he feels in the next 24 hours.

Anthony Volpe went 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, and a two-run home run in an 11-2 win over the Blue Jays in Game 1 of the doubleheader on Sunday.

Volpe swatted a pitch from Paxton Schultz into the bleachers for his fifth home run of the season. However, even after the strong game, he’s still slashing .216/.319/.443 on the season. Volpe is still young, and it’s easy to fantasize about his development, but at this point in his career, he has proven himself to be a solid power/speed fantasy asset who will hit for a low batting average and go through cold stretches throughout the season. That can still be a valuable player for your teams, but you need to be ready to ride the rollercoaster all season long.

Anthony Volpe went 0-for-5 with four strikeouts against the Guardians on Wednesday.

Volpe hit four homers in his first five games and had a few more nice games immediately afterwards. Since Apr. 7, though, he just 7-for-53 with two doubles and a 22/9 K/BB in 16 games, dropping his overall average to .198. More contact is a must.
