MLB Underdog Fantasy Top Picks September 5

Brandon Woodruff, Milwaukee Brewers – HIGHER than 39.5 Fantasy Points

The Pirates haven’t necessarily been striking out a ton against right-handed pitching of late, but this is still a very good matchup for Woodruff, who has 19 strikeouts with a 2.25 ERA over his last two outings. Overall for the season, he’s sporting an 11.03 K/9, and his only blemish came against a very strong Texas lineup back on August 18. In an earlier start against the Pirates, he struck out nine batters over five innings of work, allowing just two earned runs in the process. The Milwaukee right-hander put forth 36 fantasy points in that outing, and a win or one more inning with the quality start would have pushed him above this line. The Pittsburgh lineup doesn’t have very good BvP numbers against Woodruff historically, and I love his chances for a win tonight and if he can get through six innings, which is something he’s done in three of his last five starts, he’ll get 10 fantasy points alone from the win and quality start.

Trea Turner, Philadelphia Phillies – HIGHER than 0.5 Runs Scored

The standing ovation heard around the world is what it's likely known as at this point in the City of Brotherly Love. During Turner’s 15-game hit streak, he’s slashing .358/.380/.881 with 10 home runs, 19 runs scored, and 23 RBI. What’s most notable here for Turner is the matchup, as Pedro Avila has some reverse splits this season. Right-handed hitters have hit him at a .261 clip with a .406 SLG and .318 wOBA. Why does this matter, beyond the fact that Turner is a right-handed hitter? Well, during Turner’s 15-game hit streak, he’s only hit left-handed pitching at a .238 clip, whereas he’s sporting a .413 average against right-handed pitching during this insane run. Furthermore, he has a 1.109 SLG, 1.546 OPS, .696 ISO, 305 wRC+ and nine home runs in 48 plate appearances against righties during this hit streak. Additionally, over the last two weeks, the Phillies have the fourth-best batting average in baseball against right-handed pitching over the last two weeks, as well as the league’s best SLG, OPS and ISO. Turner himself is in a good position here, but if he can get on base, he has a strong supporting cast to help bring him around. Turner has a run scored in eight of his last nine games, and in 11 of his last 15.
