MLB Underdog Fantasy Top Picks June 23
Royce Lewis, Minnesota Twins – OVER 0.5 Singles
The Minnesota Twins offense has been very underwhelming this season, but Royce Lewis is one of the bright spots over the past month. The 24-year-old is hitting .319 since being called up in late May and has hit safely in 14 of 19 games so far. Lewis also has a .348 BA over the past seven games and a .346 BA over the past 15 games. As for this singles prop, the majority of Lewis’ hits right now are single-baggers. Of his 22 hits in the majors this season, only five have been extra-base knocks. The Twins will get a nice matchup here against Detroit Tigers left-hander Joey Wentz, who has a 6.82 ERA and 1.56 WHIP over 14 outings this year. Meanwhile, Lewis is hitting .353 vs lefties so far and he boasts a .440 BA on the road too. For some additional context, Lewis is -245 on DraftKings Sportsbook to get a hit tonight. More often than not, as noted above, Lewis’ hits have been singles.
Zach Eflin, Tampa Bay Rays – OVER 92.5 Pitch Count
Yesterday, Shane McClanahan left his start in the fourth inning with a back injury and it forced the Tampa Bay Rays to use up bullpen arms earlier than expected. With that in mind, let’s bank on Zach Eflin going deep into tonight’s game with this pitch count prop. Eflin’s pitch counts were smaller at the beginning of the season, but the Rays are giving him a longer leash now. He’s tossed at least 90 pitches in six of his last seven starts with at least 93 (the over) in four of those. The right-hander is also averaging 93.7 pitches and 6+ innings per outing over this recent seven-start stretch. As for tonight’s matchup against the Kansas City Royals, it should be an easy one. The Royals have a poor .291 wOBA vs right-handed pitching this season (3rd-worst in MLB) and a sub-.300 wOBA vs righties over the past week. With Yonny Chirinos scheduled for Saturday and Tyler Glasnow going Sunday, the Rays will also need some rested bullpen arms for likely shorter outings from those two starters. Tampa Bay signed Eflin in the offseason for him to eat innings as a traditional starter and we could see him go seven strong frames tonight in this matchup.
