MLB Underdog Fantasy Top Picks June 12

James Paxton, Boston Red Sox – OVER 7.5 Strikeouts

Outside of one bad outing, James Paxton has been really solid for the Boston Red Sox this year since joining the rotation in mid-May. The veteran lefthander is in the midst of a bounce-back season after undergoing Tommy John surgery and missing pretty much all of the 2022 campaign. In terms of strikeouts, Paxton has gone over 7.5 Ks in three of five starts so far and his current 33% K rate would be a career-high for a full season. Maybe he experiences some negative regression at some point, but tonight’s matchup is too juicy to ignore. The Colorado Rockies have a league-worst 33.8% strikeout rate vs left-handed pitching over the past two weeks, to go along with a .191 BA and .251 wOBA (both bottom five). Over this whole season, the Rockies have a 25.9% K rate vs. lefties (5th-worst in MLB) and just a .287 wOBA (2nd-worst). Then we have Colorado on the road, which is a top-5 matchup for opposing pitchers. Paxton should have plenty of success tonight at home and rack up strikeouts.

Corey Seager, Texas Rangers – OVER 1.5 Total Bases

After losing a weekend series to Tampa Bay, the Texas Rangers will be looking to bounce back big tonight at home. One of the key pieces of the offensive production will surely be Corey Seager, who’s swinging a hot bat this season. Seager is hitting .348 with a 1.005 OPS so far and he boasts impressive splits lately. The Rangers’ shortstop has a .379 BA and 1.109 OPS over the past seven games and a .348 BA/.998 OPS over the past 15 contests. Seager has been over 1.5 total bases in nine of the past 13 games. At home this year, Seager is hitting .386 with a 1.001 OPS and has gone over 1.5 total bases in 10 of his last 12 home games. Tonight, the Rangers will take on Los Angeles Angels left-hander Tyler Anderson, who’s struggled this season with a 5.62 ERA and 1.60 WHIP. He’s a better pitcher against lefty hitters, but Seager boasts a strong .362 BA and .963 OPS against southpaws. Plus, the BvP splits are in our favor here with Seager hitting .381 (8-for-21) in his career vs Anderson.
