MLB Underdog Fantasy Picks Today: Sunday, May 12

Kyle Hendricks, SP Chicago Cubs

  • 4.5 Hits Allowed – Higher

While the numbers show the Pirates struggling at the plate in recent games, they managed 10 runs on 11 hits Saturday and now get to face one of the most hittable pitchers in the game in Hendricks (2.10 WHIP) who is returning from a stint on the IL with a back issue. If he’s starting, which he is, then there shouldn’t be concern over him coming out early if he’s pitching well. He’ll come out when the hit parade starts, so we’ll take advantage of the low hit-line here.

Bailey Falter, SP Pittsburgh Pirates

  • 4.5 Strikeouts – Lower (0.9x)

Less than even money on our strikeout line here is understandable given, Falter’s results. He’s actually gone higher than 4.5 Ks in two of his last three starts, but he’s still gone under in five of seven for the season. The Cubs got Cody Bellinger back in the lineup and they’ve been getting back to their winning ways. On top of that, they have the second-highest wOBA against lefthanded pitching (.362) and have a strikeout rate against them under 22-percent. I’m banking on them chasing him early and keeping the ball in-play.

 

 

Frankie Montas, SP Cincinnati Reds

  • 4.5 Strikeouts - Higher 

The San Francisco Giants have been struggling at the plate recently with a .299 wOBA and a 23.3-percent strikeout rate. The numbers have been comparable against righties all year. Montas pitched well in his return from the IL, shutting down the Diamondbacks and fanning seven. He’s actually only gone over this mark twice this year, but now that he’s healthy and getting back to form, this is a prime spot to use him.

**Always take advantage of that Bonus Pick they give you. When I opened Underdog this morning to make my picks I got Ozzie Albies at 0.5 plate appearances, so considering he’s healthy, he will be in the lineup. Just makes a nice three-leg parlay that much more valuable.
