Junior Caminero Underdog MLB Picks Today, 4/19: Baseball Projections + More

It’s a Saturday filled with baseball and we have tremendous opportunities to build those Underdog bankrolls with some MLB DFS Pick ‘Em picks for today.
We are absolutely loaded with aces for today’s MLB slate as Paul Skenes, Garrett Crochet and Michael King all take the mound in very favorable match-ups. But it’s also a Coors Field day, a day where Carlos Carrasco faces the Rays in a minor-league ballpark and even the Braves bats are starting to wake up. Should be a fun-filled day packed with great money-making opportunities for MLB picks. Let’s dive in.

Junior Caminero MLB Underdog Fantasy Pick: Higher Than 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBI
Carlos Carrasco may have gotten away with one against the Royals his last time out, but he is a 38-year-old desperately trying to stay relevant in the majors. If the Yankees didn’t have so many injuries to their rotation, he wouldn’t even be considered, but here he is making starts and posting ERA numbers that hover in the stratosphere. He’s not getting away with it today.
Caminero has hit safely in six of his last seven games with three multi-hit performances, four home runs, eight RBI and seven runs scored. He’s also mashing righties with a .380 wOBA and .286 ISO. With the way Carrasco has been getting abused by right-handed hitters, this looks like a nice spot for us to cash.
- Pick: Higher Than 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBI
Garrett Crochet MLB Underdog Fantasy Pick: Higher Than 7.5 Strikeouts
When I did the Starting Pitcher Grid on Fantasy Alarm, I asked the question of whether it’s actually a revenge game narrative if the pitcher is completely elated to be on another team. My answer here is no to the revenge aspect but a big yes to Crochet showing his former team just what they’re missing by dealing him to Boston. Especially after humiliating them his last time out where he fanned 11 over 7.1 innings. Repeat performance coming in!
The White Sox have been terrible all year, as expected, and it continues today. They are posting a dismal .242 wOBA against southpaws this season with a 24.7-percent strikeout rate. Crochet only needed 96 pitches over the 7.1 innings and he allowed just one hit. There is no one on this Chicago team who gives the impression that they have learned from their mistakes. Should be another fun one for the big lefty.
- Pick: Higher Than 7.5 strikeouts
Chris Sale MLB Underdog Fantasy Pick: Higher Than 7.5 Strikeouts
We’re going to take a shot here on a struggling veteran who has not been what everyone has hoped to open the year. Sale had a phenomenal season last year and skeptics seem to be right about him this season. The Braves have been struggling to open the season, but we’ve seen life from this team in recent games and I have no doubt they will right the ship. It starts for Sale today as his K-rate is the only thing not in question right now.
The Twins have been absolutely atrocious against left-handed pitching this year and we’re going to capitalize on that. There is no punch to this lineup, posting just a .176 wOBA and .087 ISO against southpaws, but even worse is their strikeout rate – 33.1-percent against them. We get a little better of a multiplier here as Sale hasn’t gone over seven strikeouts through four starts this season, but today changes it all.
- Pick: Higher Than 7.5 strikeouts

Player News
Daulton Varsho picked up three hits, three RBI and a homer in a win over the Angels on Thursday.
Varsho has only played in seven games this year, but they’ve been seven good ones. He’s homered three times already, and his slugging percentage is a remarkable — and entirely unsustainable — .727 over 22 at-bats. Varsho has been a mediocre offensive player in his two seasons with the Blue Jays, but it’s possible at the age of 28 he’s having a breakout campaign. Far from a guarantee, but possible.
Taylor Ward hit a two-run homer in a loss to the Blue Jays on Thursday.
Ward, 31, gave the Angels a 2-0 lead with a two-run homer off Chris Bassitt in the first inning. He’s now gone deep in two of his last three games, and it ‘improves’ his slash to .181/.224/.391. Ward has been one of the most hot/cold players players in the sport over the last few years, so fantasy managers who can afford to make some roster moves may want to look at Ward while the going is good.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. picked up three hits and scored twice in an 8-5 win over the Angels on Thursday.
Guerrero also drew a walk. It gives the first baseman multiple hits in back-to-back games, and it’s the third time in May that he’s reached that mark. That’s helped raise his average from .268 to .295, and the only thing fantasy managers can be disappointed with is his .432 slugging percentage. That number should continue to climb as the season unfolds, but Vladdy Jr. has had some inconsistent seasons when it comes to power production.
Chad Green picked up his first save of 2025 with a scoreless ninth against the Angels on Thursday.
Green got the save after Jeff Hoffman worked in back-to-back games — and struggled — in the first two contests against the Angels. He struck out two and looked the part while needing just nine pitches to get through the inning. Hoffman should remain the closer, but Green is on his tail if the struggles were to continue.
Chris Bassitt allowed five runs — four earned — while working six-plus innings against the Angels on Thursday while picking up a win.
Bassitt allowed three runs over the first two innings on a pair of homers, but settled down over his next four frames. He came out to work the seventh, but ended up being charged for two more runs after leaving the contest. The 36-year-old veteran has forged a 3.35 ERA and outstanding 49/8 K/BB ratio over the first quarter of the season, but this wasn’t him at his best. He’ll get the Rays next week if the rotation order stays the same for Toronto.
José Soriano allowed three runs over five innings while not factoring in the decision Thursday against the Blue Jays.
Soriano left with a 4-3 lead, but it was erased quickly after his departure. The 26-year-old was not exactly dominant in his outing with eight hits allowed and four free passes, but he did strike out six to help balance things out a smidgen. Soriano takes an even ERA of 4.00 into a scheduled start against the Padres in San Diego on Tuesday. There should be better options for that one.
