Paul Goldschmidt MLB Underdog Fantasy Pick: Higher Than 2.5 Hits + Runs + RBI
Why not begin with one of the tastiest match-ups on the slate. Goldschmidt us having a resurgent year and he is absolutely murdering lefthanded pitching right now. He’s a career .328 hitter against southpaws (.428 wOBA) but this year he’s got his senses dialed up even more and he is posting a mammoth .657 wOBA against them which comes with a .436 ISO and only a 10-percent strikeout rate. With Kyle Freeland on the mound and the .376 wOBA righthanded hitters are posting against him, we can expect a big day out of the Yankees first baseman.
Matthew Liberatore MLB Underdog Fantasy Pick: Lower Than 4.5 Strikeouts
The Cardinals lefty has had some ups and downs throughout this season, but he hasn’t allowed more than two earned runs in any of his last seven starts. That’s pretty impressive. However, the strikeouts have been extremely inconsistent as he is getting fewer swings inside the zone but also allowing more contact there at the same time. The Diamondbacks have shown tremendous plate discipline this season, especially against lefties. A 16.5-percent strikeout rate against southpaws is the lowest in MLB by a fairly wide margin. We’ll expect another day without too many K’s.
Bryce Harper MLB Underdog Fantasy Pick: Higher Than 1.5 Total Bases
Of course we’re going to attack Sutter Health today. I actually like Jeffrey Springs who gets the starting nod for the Athletics, but given the ballpark factors, the lack of strikeouts, a high walk rate and a 48-percent fly-ball rate, we have to look at the Phillies hitters. Springs is allowing a .333 wOBA to lefthanded hitters for his career so, given how well Harper hits southpaws, this looks like a solid match. Not only does Harper post a .385 wOBA against lefties, his K-rate is under 19-percent and the ISO is at .221. We just need two bases, something he’s done in four of his last five games.

Player News
Alex Verdugo is not in the Braves’ starting lineup for Thursday night’s battle against the Mets.
It looks to be another routine night off for the 29-year-old outfielder. Even with a right-hander on the hill, Verdugo will take a seat for the Braves in favor of Eli White who will start in left field and bat seventh for the Braves against Griffin Canning. His usefulness from a fantasy perspective, even in the deepest of leagues, will likely come to an end when Jurickson Profar returns from his suspension on July 2.
Pete Fairbanks got the final two outs in the Rays’ win over the Royals on Thursday.
Fairbanks had to clean up a mess in the ninth inning, but because it came with the Rays leading by four, that work doesn’t come with a save. It does see him lower his ERA to 2.03, however, so that’s a nice little consolation prize.
Brandon Lowe hit a solo homer in a win for the Rays on Thursday over the Royals.
Junior Caminero hit a solo homer to help the Rays to a win Thursday over the Royals.
That’s the 20th homer of the season for Caminero in his first full season of MLB action. The 21-year-old has gone deep seven times in the month of June, ,and he carries an .855 OPS during that time frame. There are very few hitters in baseball who have the kind of upside Caminero carries, and the current results are nothing to sneeze at, obviously.
Michael Lorenzen allowed two homers while throwing five innings of fourn-run baseball in a loss to the Rays on Thursday.
Lorenzen gave up a pair of homers in the start; both solo homers by Junior Caminero and Brandon Lowe, respectively. The 33-year-old struck out four while generating a mediocre seven swings and misses over 81 pitches. The mediocre — at best — start sees Lorenzen’s ERA bump up to 4.91, and he’ll try and get back on track against the Mariners on Tuesday in Seattle.
Shane Baz struck out nine while working eight scoreless innings to pick up a win and help the Rays to a 4-0 win over the Royals.
Outstanding. Baz allowed just three hits and didn’t walk anyone while throwing 69-of-97 pitches for strikes. He did so while generating a solid 11 swings-and-misses, and he allowed just one extra-base hit. Baz has had his ups and downs in his return season, but this is a reminder of what kind of upside he possesses in his right arm. He’ll look to continue to drop his 4.37 ERA against the A’s on Tuesday.
