Angels vs. Rangers Predictions: Tuesday, April 15th
It may sound surprising, but I had this series circled on my list this week as the Angels head to Texas for a 3-game series. Both teams have started the season well in the AL West and this will be a big early test for each club to see where they stand.
The pitching will be something to watch and not in a good way as Yusei Kikuchi and Patrick Corbin are set to start. Each pitcher has struggled early this season with Kikuchi holding a ERA of 5.00 and a WHIP of 1.28. He is also allowing quite a bit of hits with 15 allowed over his 3 starts.
Then on the Rangers side is the other lefty pitching tonight in Corbin and there have been many rocky starts the last couple of seasons for the veteran. He has just 1 start so far this season but he was shelled in it allowing 3 runs and 5 hits in 4 innings of work. He will have an uphill battle against this surprise Angels lineup that is scoring 5 runs per game, the 6th most in MLB.
Look for the offenses to take center stage tonight and the total to lean towards the over at the number of 8.5. Not stopping there though as somebody needs to generate that offense for us! That’s where Josh Jung comes in who should be batting 3rd for the Rangers tonight. Jung has a great track record against left-handed pitching and this season he is hitting .400 against them!
Look for the Texas third basemen to do his part in our MLB best bets today and go over his prop of 1.5 hits/runs/RBIs!
- Expert Angels vs. Rangers Picks:
- Los Angeles vs. Texas Over 8.5 Runs (-115 on ESPN Bet)
- Josh Jung (TEX) Over 1.5 Hits/Runs/RBIs (-125 on DraftKings)
Braves vs. Blue Jays Predictions: Tuesday, April 15th
It could be that the Braves finally got back on track offensively after last night’s explosion, but I am thinking it was more likely an outlier given how their bats have looked this season. That is sending me in the direction of an under wager but let’s dive in.
Kevin Gausman will start for the Blue Jays tonight and he’s off to a great start with a 2.33 ERA through 19.1 innings of work. His WHIP has also been impressive at 0.62 which means you must earn your base runners and that’s not been easy for the Braves who are hitting .233 as a team against right-handed pitching this season. They also have issues with strikeouts with a team K-rate of 25.7%, so Gausman may pick them apart while he’s on the mound.
On the other end of this matchup is Spencer Schwellenbach who is having a breakout season already for Atlanta. The young hurler has gone 20 innings on the mound so far and has allowed just 1 earned run and that has led him to holding the best ERA in MLB of .45!
Seeing as the Blue Jays offense is below league average in runs per game at home, I think while these two pitchers are going the runs will be hard to find. So, I’m taking the under in the opening 5 frames of this contest to cap off my MLB best bets today.
- Expert Braves vs. Blue Jays Picks:
- Atlanta vs. Toronto 1st 5 Innings Under 4.5 Runs (-150 on DraftKings)
- Kevin Gausman (TOR) Over 5.5 Strikeouts (+100 on DraftKings)
Best MLB Prop Bets & Other Picks Today, 4/15
- Bryson Stott (PHI) Over 1.5 Hits/Runs/RBIs (-115 on DraftKings)
- Philadelphia Phillies Money Line (-160 on DraftKings)
- New York Mets Money Line (-115 on BetMGM)
- Junior Caminero (TB) Over 1.5 Hits/Runs/RBIs (-125 on DraftKings)
Player News
Red Sox OF prospect Roman Anthony went 1-for-5 on Tuesday in his return to the lineup for Triple-A Worcester.
Anthony was back in left field and leading off on Tuesday night following a brief two-game absence after leaving last Friday’s game early when he fouled a ball off his foot. It’s a positive sign that he’s back playing the outfield again after missing time earlier this month with minor shoulder inflammation. The 20-year-old prodigy figures to reach the big leagues in a couple weeks since there isn’t much left for him to prove at the Triple-A level from an offensive standpoint.
Braves released OF Jake Marisnick.
Marisnick hasn’t appeared in the big leagues since the 2023 season and was unable to land a spot on Atlanta’s season-opening roster back in spring training. The 34-year-old defensive standout has been cut loose after batting .098 (4-for-41) with one homer and one steal in 12 games for Triple-A Gwinnett.
Rangers released RHP David Buchanan.
Buchanan was unable to land a spot on Texas’ season-opening roster and winds up being released after struggling to a lackluster 5.28 ERA, 1.72 WHIP and 19/12 K/BB ratio across 29 innings (six starts) for Triple-A Round Rock.
Shota Imanaga was removed from Tuesday’s start against the Pirates with leg cramps.
Imanaga appeared to be in some obvious discomfort after giving up a leadoff double to Andrew McCutchen in the sixth inning and departed with a trainer following a visit from Cubs manager Craig Counsell. The 31-year-old lefty struck out three over five shutout innings to open the contest. It sounds like his early exit was merely out of an abundance of caution. He should be able to make his next scheduled start on Sunday against the Brewers.
Diamondbacks SS prospect Jordan Lawlar went 2-for-3 with a solo homer and two RBI on Tuesday for Triple-A Reno.
Lawlar continues adding extra defensive versatility to his profile, spending time at both second and third base in recent weeks, and appears to be on the precipice of making it back to the big leagues. The 22-year-old projects as a potential five-category impact fantasy contributor thanks to his power/speed combination. He’s hitting .364 (39-for-107) with 20 extra-base hits — six home runs — and 12 stolen bases through 27 games this season for Triple-A Reno. It’s time.
Twins OF prospect Walker Jenkins (ankle) received a cortisone injection and isn’t expected to return to minor league game action until June.
Jenkins has dealt with an array of physical issues since being selected fifth overall in the 2023 MLB Draft. The immense talent and upside is undeniable, but he’s struggled to stay on the field at times. The 20-year-old top prospect isn’t expected to return to game action at Double-A Wichita until early June after receiving an injection to address lingering ankle soreness. He’s a top-10 prospect for dynasty purposes, but the lost development time is starting to become a minor concern.
