Mets vs. Dodgers Prediction, NLCS Game 6: Sunday, October 20th

Sunday night’s NLCS Game 6 is bound to be an entertaining matchup, just as the majority of this series has been. If the Dodgers win, they punch a ticket to the World Series. If the Mets win, they stay alive for a winner-take-all Game 7 on Monday. Let’s see how to bet this one.

Sean Manaea gets the start for New York, which has been a great thing lately. The Mets are 25-10 in Manaea’s starts this year with wins in 10 of his last 12 outings, including 2-1 in the playoffs so far. The left-hander has a 2.65 ERA in his three postseason starts and had a 3.09 ERA over his final 12 regular-season appearances. Simply put, it’s been tough to fade the Mets when Manaea is on the mound.

However, the Dodgers offense is hot right now. They’ve scored 6, 10, and 8 runs in the past three NLCS games and are averaging 6.0 runs per game in the postseason. Manaea was mostly able to hold LA in check in Game 2 when he allowed 3 runs over 5 innings en route to a victory. Still, there’s something to be said about a lineup already getting a first look at a pitcher as hot as Manaea.

If he runs into any trouble early, expect an early exit from Manaea. In this elimination game situation, the Mets could go to the pen quickly to limit the damage. Kodai Senga is expected to be a top bulk arm out of the pen, but that didn’t go well for him back in Game 1 when he allowed 3 runs over 1.1 innings.

On the other side, the Dodgers will be going with a bullpen game. All of Los Angeles’ top relievers are available and well-rested with none being used in Game 5 and a day off in between games anyway. In Games 3 and 4, the LA pen gave up no runs across 9.2 combined innings of work as it shut down the Mets lineup.

Although it was impressive, we can partially ignore Game 5 on Friday when the Mets put up 12 runs. It seemed like Dave Roberts was fully content to allow Jack Flaherty and Brent Honeywell to eat innings and give up runs while saving the top relievers for the clincher tonight. The Dodger players are likely more motivated now that the series is back in Los Angeles to win at home and celebrate in front of their fans.
