Padres vs. Dodgers Prediction: Game 5, October 11th

In the division series, nothing is better than a Game 5 winner-take-all showdown! This series has been one of the best of these playoffs and I don’t think tonight will disappoint us. If you have been reading my MLB best bets all season, then you know I am taking the Padres to win tonight, but let’s dive into why I am.

Reason number 1 is Yu Darvish on the hill for San Diego today; in his first start of this series he pitched a gem going 7 innings and allowing just 3 hits. Do I expect that level of play? Not necessarily, but he gives the Padres a head start in the opening 5-6 innings of the game.

He also pitched a pair of games against the Dodgers in the regular season and only gave up 3 earned runs over 15.2 innings of work. On the road this season, he also held opposing batters to a .198 average and is good against righties and lefties all the same. The Padres bullpen is also among the best in the sport, so Padres pitching gives a huge edge.

On the other end of the bump is Yoshinobu Yamamoto who had a good season but since returning from injury has just been okay. He also got lit up in his start against the Padres this series allowing 5 earned runs and left the game after 3 innings.

He can also get knocked around some by right-handed hitters and the Padres have many clutch players that fit into that category. The Padres have so much momentum right now and have been one of the hottest teams in baseball for months, so give me the Padres to win and advance to the NLCS with my MLB best bets today!
