Not only do we have a full slate of MLB games that start up tonight at 6:35pm ET, but we get a little bonus baseball with the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Mets squaring off in a double-header that gives us a little afternoon baseball to enjoy. We’re not going to bet that pair of games as we don’t know the lineups just yet, but the rest of the slate is wide open.

MLB Picks, Predictions, & Best Bets Today, 5/28

Despite yesterday’s MLB predictions being loaded up with a bunch of daytime baseball, we still came out on top, turning another small profit. Better than losing, right?

Definitely did not see the Astros bats getting so stifled, especially after Framber Valdez gave up a couple of early runs, but we knew the risk betting a full unit on Elly De La Cruz stealing a base. I thought Lance Lynn would get worked a little more than he did. And Vladimir Guerrero coming up completely empty? Yeesh!

It happens. We rebound even more today and keep that winning streak alive.

  • Yesterday’s Record: 4-3
  • Season Record: 161-139-4
  • Bankroll: +5.89 units

Yankees vs. Angels Prediction: Tuesday, May 28

On the surface, this matchup looks like it favors the Yankees with the fact that Nestor Cortes hasn’t allowed an earned run in either of his last two starts, but the Angels are a surprisingly strong team against lefthanded pitching.

In fact, the Angels have the second-highest wOBA (.341) against southpaws this season and that comes with a .170 ISO and a .327 BABIP. Of the four times Cortes has allowed at least four earned runs, he’s faced teams with strong numbers against lefties and in three of those four, he failed to record 18 outs.

On the other side is Griffin Canning and you don’t need to be a rocket scientist to know how rough things have gotten for him, particularly with the number of home runs he’s allowed. The Yankees lineup has a league-best .348 wOBA against righties this season and the .199 ISO tells me we’re going to see Canning give up some runs tonight to begin today’s MLB best bets.

Cardinals vs. Reds Prediction: Tuesday, May 28

Andrew Abbott has been outstanding this season, allowing just two or fewer runs in nine of his 10 starts. He just got an extra couple of days off after throwing back-to-back seven-inning masterpieces against the Padres and Diamondbacks and now faces a Cardinals team that sports a .269 wOBA with a paltry .113 ISO.

They don’t strike out a ton which is why we’re not adding the K-prop alone to these MLB predictions, but he should stifle the Cardinals bats enough to allow the Reds to grab an early lead in this one. For the Cardinals, it’s the always hittable Kyle Gibson on the mound.

The Reds may not have strong numbers overall against righthanded pitching, but they’ve been working themselves out of this slump and have a .319 wOBA over the past week and that comes with a walk-rate north of 12-percent, so I expect them to get some free passes and jump on Gibson quickly.

Blue Jays vs. White Sox Prediction: Tuesday, May 28

While Kevin Gausman appears to have righted the ship over his last two starts, he is not infallible, and the White Sox have some solid experience against him. We just need him to allow a run or two to round out today’s MLB picks, because we expect the Blue Jays bats to do most of the work for us anyway. Mike Clevinger hasn’t gotten out of the fifth inning yet and he’s now allowed eight earned runs over his last 9.1 innings (two starts).

The Blue Jays bats have finally awakened and they’ve posted an impressive .344 wOBA with a .196 ISO over the last seven days. They’re also showing tremendous plate discipline, so we’re going to keep a watchful eye on an outs-recorded prop for him. Haven’t seen anything yet, but if it’s 16.5, I’m liking the under. Lastly, both bullpens have been somewhat overworked lately and that is certainly going to factor into the game total. We love the late runs and expect them. This 7.5 mark is just too low.
