MLB Best Bets for August 28
Atlanta Braves at Colorado Rockies
Now with 84 wins on the season the Braves stand alone at the top of the MLB standings as they head into a welcoming series against the Colorado Rockies. We all know the science behind playing baseball in Denver so let's use that to make some money tonight! The Braves by no surprise have the highest implied total on the slate tonight at nearly 7.5 runs which is an insane number and also what it is on the sportsbooks for their team total. The number is just too high to wager on but if you cut the game in half you can get the Braves run total at 3.5 through 5 innings and that's much more interesting. I say this because we will likely get the Braves top of the lineup hitter 2 or 3 times by that point and Austin Gomber is starting for the Rockies with his 5.48 ERA and 1.47 WHIP. Gomber has also allowed 9 earned runs over his last 11.1 innings pitched so let's take that over on the Braves while he is out there. Going to also add Ronald Acuna Jr. to the fold tonight as he hits lefties well with an OPS of .934 as well. The number is 2.5 on his hits, runs and RBIs but given the implied runs he should be able to top that number hitting leadoff for Atlanta tonight.
Pick: Atlanta Braves 1st 5 Innings Over 3.5 Team Total Runs (-110 on DraftKings)
Pick: Ronald Acuna Jr. Over 2.5 Hits/Runs/RBIs (-140 on DraftKings)
Pittsburgh Pirates at Kansas City Royals
This time of year it can be hard to wager on games and teams that really have nothing to play for but in this matchup between the Pirates and Royals I see a potential offensive explosion. The Royals have hit the over in their games in 7 of the last 10 games and have a tendency overall to be in high scoring games with the pitching being so bad and the young bats coming alive. Then there's the Pirates whose pitchers have been getting slammed and are allowing a team ERA of 4.60. The starting pitching combo of Zack Greinke and Johan Oviedo should net some runs too as both have high ERAs and are sliding this month of August. We have been betting the over in many Royals games of late and its time to do it again!
Pick: Pirates & Royals Over 9 Runs (-115 on BetMGM)
Houston Astros at Boston Red Sox
In this game its all about Astros outfielder Kyle Tucker and the reasons are pretty straight forward. He is clobbering left handed pitching this season with a .982 OPS and 11 homes runs in 166 at bats compared to 15 home runs against righties on 303 at bats. Enter Chris Sale who will be pitching for the Red Sox tonight and is of course a lefty on the mound. Sale has had a rough August with an ERA of 5.14 over 3 starts and those were in games against the Nationals and Tigers, the Astros are much better than those teams of course. This puts Tucker in play in the best player prop category in my opinion of hits, runs and RBIs and for some reason his line is just 1.5 for tonight's game. It could be 2.5 and I would consider it but alas the sportsbooks are helping us out today so let's ride that over on Kyle Tucker.
Pick: Kyle Tucker Over 1.5 Hits/Runs/RBIs (-140 on DraftKings)
