MLB Best Bets for August 27
Atlanta Braves at San Francisco Giants
It's a matchup on Sunday night baseball tonight of two teams right in the thick of the MLB playoff race. The Braves are comfortable in that race I will say but still every game matters right now and Giants know that too. It could be a winnable game for the Giants at home today too where they are 35-30 and have an opener/bullpen game ahead of them. This is good because the Giants pitching has been great all the way around this season with a team ERA of 3.95 which is good enough for 9th in the MLB. They will have an uphill battle against the Braves offense but it looks like they could be sitting some players. Keep in mind the final lineup is not out yet but something worth watching. I also like a prop in this game and it involves the other side with Jared Shuster pitching for the Braves. He is not a big strikeout guy by any stretch but the Giants strikeout over 9 times per game so I am interested at his line of 3.5 strikeouts and taking the over there.
Pick: San Francisco Giants Money Line (+125 on BetMGM)
Pick: Jared Shuster Over 3.5 Strikeouts (-105 on DraftKings)
Kansas City Royals at Seattle Mariners
Last pick here on the docket for the best bets and I am keeping it simple and betting the over in this game. The Royals may be terrible but they are scoring runs in the month of August with 119 runs over 25 which for you math people out there works out to 4.76 runs per game which is a significant rise from their season average of 4.01. The books still haven't caught up in my opinion either as the total sits at just 8 runs tonight. This is all without mentioning the Mariners who are red hot winning 10 of the last 11 games on the back of their offense that has also scored 22 runs in the opening pair of games in this series. Royals and Mariners should do plenty to top that number this afternoon and I will be there with my winning slip!
Pick: Royals & Mariners Over 8 Runs (-110 on BetMGM)
**all bets are one unit unless specifically mentioned.
Player News
Hunter Goodman hit a two-run homer in a loss Monday to the Rockies.
Goodman got the Rockies back into the game with a two-run homer off Anthony Benda to make it 5-3. The 25-year-old has shown some solid pop with four homers and a .468 slugging percentage over 51 at-bats, but he’s essentially a one-category player for fantasy purposes.
Mookie Betts scored twice and hit a two-run homer in a win over the Rockies on Monday.
Shohei Ohtani went 3-for-5, scored three runs and homered in a 5-3 win over the Rockies on Monday.
Dustin May held the Rockies to one earned run with seven strikeouts to get a win over the Rockies on Monday.
By allowing the run on a Kyle Farmer double, May’s ERA has erupted all the way up to 1.06. His control was the best he’s shown all year, as he didn’t walk anyone and landed 52-of-76 pitches for strikes. May has been impressive to begin 2025, and he doesn’t look like he wants to give up the rotation spot. His next outing comes against the Rangers on Sunday.
Tanner Scott hurled a scoreless ninth inning despite allowing two hits against the Rockies on Monday.
Antonio Senzatela was charged for four runs on nine hits in 4 1/3 innings pitched to get a loss Monday to the Dodgers.
Need to get your batting average up? Make sure you’re in the lineup against Antonio Senzatela. He’s now allowed 36 hits over his four starts, and that’s over only 18 innings. Two of those hits allowed were homers; a two-run shot by Mookie Betts and a solo blast by Shohei Ohtani. Senzatela will either give up 15 hits or throw a no-hitter against the Nationals over the weekend because that’s how this sport works.
