Phillies vs. Mets Predictions, Picks, Odds & Starting Pitchers: Today, 4/22

The storied history of baseball means that there are so many rivalries that fans can call the best, and the NL East alone has several of them. That includes the one that got started in Queens last night, and with a game featured on TBS tonight, we’ve got our best Phillies vs. Mets predictions to break down.
Of course, that also means a best bet from our Phillies vs. Mets picks, which is perfect for fans in those two states (PA & NY) that can snag the GUARANTEED $200 DraftKings Sportsbook sign up bonus that we’ve also shared with you.
Phillies vs. Mets Predictions For MLB On TBS, 4/22
Yesterday’s series opener had the Phillies vs. Mets odds set for one of the closest games of the day, and based on how much of a toss-up these NL East rivalries can be, that could be the case no matter the pitching matchup.
That said, we’d still give Philly the edge in that department tonight, but before we get that far, there is plenty to discuss regarding these two east coast teams. It’s back-to-back divisional series for Philly, who nearly pulled off the weekend sweep of the Miami Marlins. In fact, the reason that they weren’t able to plays a major factor in our best bet.
Meanwhile, New York entered last night's opener following not only a sweep, but a four-game sweep over the St. Louis Cardinals. With all that said, these are two of the best teams in the National League, which is why our Phillies vs. Mets predictions are going to isolate just a portion of the game.
Philadelphia Phillies: The Comeback That Wasn’t
Speaking of a portion of the game, when it came to last night’s matchup, Philly fans were all about the ninth inning. Well, those who hadn’t tuned out by then. The Phillies entered the final frame down 5-0 after failing to generate hardly any hits, let alone runs.
However, J.T. Realmuto kickstarted a comeback with an RBI single, who later scored himself. That was thanks to a Bryson Stott three-run homer. As great as all that sounds, what you’ll notice is that the superstars like Trea Turner (0-for-3) and Bryce Harper (0-for-3) weren’t mentioned - the game ended with those two striking out back-to-back.
New York Mets: Francisco Lindor Does It Again
The Mets have never had a shortage of stars to focus on, especially heading into this season with their colossal signing of Juan Soto. However, recently, it’s been all about a fan favorite - Francisco Lindor. He yet again pleased the home crowd nice and early last night with a home run in the bottom of the first inning.
No, not the same one from Sunday, but yes, he also did it to help New York finish off the four-game series sweep of the Cards. Speaking of which, it was Friday night to get the entire weekend started that saw Lindor hit a walk-off homer to beat St. Louis 5-4. Oh yeah - he then also went ahead and hit a three-run homer in the seventh last night to solidify the victory.

Phillies vs. Mets Best Bet: Philly First 5 Innings Money Line (-140 at DraftKings Sportsbook)
First and foremost, we actually have a few ways you could lock in your Phillies vs. Mets picks. With Philly starting lefty Cristopher Sanchez, if you want to target some player props, we’d suggest taking the over his strikeouts line.
While the Mets aren’t awful against southpaws, they’re not nearly as strong as they were last season, and Sanchez can ring ‘em up with the best of them. Coming off an epic 12-strikeout performance could be reason enough, but he’s also had 7+ strikeouts in three of his four starts this season.
Sanchez also faced the Mets in back-to-back starts at the tail end of last season, and he recorded seven strikeouts in each outing. So, why did we share so much if that’s not our best bet? Well, we’re still taking the Phillies in the first five innings to take advantage of Sanchez’s success.
We like this approach just a bit better because the Mets have struck out the fourth-fewest times this season, and this way, we get to exploit the bullpen discrepancy. This relates back to why Philly wasn’t able to close out their weekend sweep - a bullpen collapse against the Marlins on Sunday.
The Phillies’ bullpen has the second-worst ERA this season, while the Mets’ has the third-best. That’s why we just want to focus on the first half of the game in the event of another collapse. Therefore, the best bet from our Phillies vs. Mets predictions is on Philly’s first 5 innings money line (-140 at DraftKings Sportsbook).
Phillies vs. Mets Injury Report & Starting Pitchers
One last thing before we share today’s guaranteed $200 DraftKings sign up bonus - the latest Phillies vs. Mets injury news and starters. Philly would love to have another lefty - Ranger Suarez - back in the rotation, as well as outfielder Brandon Marsh.
In Queens, the Mets have concerns with starters Sean Manaea and Frankie Montas, along with Francisco Alvarez, Jeff McNeil and Mark Vientos. As for the Phillies vs. Mets starters for today...
- Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher today: Cristopher Sanchez (2-0, 2.96 ERA)
- New York Mets starting pitcher today: Griffin Canning (2-1, 3.43 ERA)

Player News
Daulton Varsho picked up three hits, three RBI and a homer in a win over the Angels on Thursday.
Varsho has only played in seven games this year, but they’ve been seven good ones. He’s homered three times already, and his slugging percentage is a remarkable — and entirely unsustainable — .727 over 22 at-bats. Varsho has been a mediocre offensive player in his two seasons with the Blue Jays, but it’s possible at the age of 28 he’s having a breakout campaign. Far from a guarantee, but possible.
Taylor Ward hit a two-run homer in a loss to the Blue Jays on Thursday.
Ward, 31, gave the Angels a 2-0 lead with a two-run homer off Chris Bassitt in the first inning. He’s now gone deep in two of his last three games, and it ‘improves’ his slash to .181/.224/.391. Ward has been one of the most hot/cold players players in the sport over the last few years, so fantasy managers who can afford to make some roster moves may want to look at Ward while the going is good.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. picked up three hits and scored twice in an 8-5 win over the Angels on Thursday.
Guerrero also drew a walk. It gives the first baseman multiple hits in back-to-back games, and it’s the third time in May that he’s reached that mark. That’s helped raise his average from .268 to .295, and the only thing fantasy managers can be disappointed with is his .432 slugging percentage. That number should continue to climb as the season unfolds, but Vladdy Jr. has had some inconsistent seasons when it comes to power production.
Chad Green picked up his first save of 2025 with a scoreless ninth against the Angels on Thursday.
Green got the save after Jeff Hoffman worked in back-to-back games — and struggled — in the first two contests against the Angels. He struck out two and looked the part while needing just nine pitches to get through the inning. Hoffman should remain the closer, but Green is on his tail if the struggles were to continue.
Chris Bassitt allowed five runs — four earned — while working six-plus innings against the Angels on Thursday while picking up a win.
Bassitt allowed three runs over the first two innings on a pair of homers, but settled down over his next four frames. He came out to work the seventh, but ended up being charged for two more runs after leaving the contest. The 36-year-old veteran has forged a 3.35 ERA and outstanding 49/8 K/BB ratio over the first quarter of the season, but this wasn’t him at his best. He’ll get the Rays next week if the rotation order stays the same for Toronto.
José Soriano allowed three runs over five innings while not factoring in the decision Thursday against the Blue Jays.
Soriano left with a 4-3 lead, but it was erased quickly after his departure. The 26-year-old was not exactly dominant in his outing with eight hits allowed and four free passes, but he did strike out six to help balance things out a smidgen. Soriano takes an even ERA of 4.00 into a scheduled start against the Padres in San Diego on Tuesday. There should be better options for that one.
