Cristopher Sánchez (forearm) was able to play catch on Friday without any issues.

The next step for him will be to throw a bullpen session on Sunday at Wrigley Field. The Phillies seem optimistic that Sánchez will be able to avoid a trip to the injured list, however he will not make his scheduled start on Tuesday. Zack Wheeler will get the ball on Tuesday on regular rest, with the rest of the rotation to be determined after that, depending on how Sunday’s session goes for Sánchez.

Cristopher Sánchez said he’s feeling better Wednesday after leaving his start Tuesday with forearm tightness, and no MRI is currently scheduled.

Sánchez will test things out by playing catch Friday. It’s possible he’ll make his next start on time or be pushed back by only a couple of days. Alternatively, if Friday doesn’t go well, he’ll probably be placed on the IL, with Ranger Suárez taking his spot (instead of Taijuan Walker’s spot) in the Phillies rotation.

Cristopher Sánchez was removed from Tuesday’s start against the Mets with left forearm soreness.

Not good. Sánchez’s velocity was down nearly two miles per hour across the board, which is a glaring warning sign, and he was lifted after just 58 pitches over two innings. The 28-year-old southpaw will undergo further evaluation and testing to determine the severity of the issue. He’s looked like a certifiable fantasy ace this season, entering Tuesday’s outing on the heels of back-to-back 12-strikeout performances. There should be some clarity on his status in the coming days. He’s obviously in jeopardy of missing his upcoming start next Tuesday against the Nationals. It would likely be Ranger Suárez (back) coming off the injured list to take his rotation spot.

Cristopher Sanchez picked up his second victory of the season on Thursday, racking up a season-high 12 strikeouts over seven innings against the Giants.

The 28-year-old southpaw allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits and one walk. The Giants scratched out a run against him in the first inning on a two-out RBI single by Matt Chapman. Sanchez then served up a two-run homer to Chapman in the sixth after Heliot Ramos had reached on an error. He got a whopping 24 swings and misses on 97 pitches in the ballgame — 22 of those on his changeup alone — while posting an elite CSW of 40 percent. Now 2-0 on the season, Sanchez will carry a 2.96 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and a 31/6 K/BB ratio (24 1/3 innings) into Tuesday’s showdown against the Mets in New York.
