EPL DFS Playbook October 29: Kieran Trippier is a Strong Play

We are ending October with a nice big EPL DFS slate, and it is super-sized on FanDuel where we have not just one but two late games. On DraftKings all five games start at 10 am ET, whereas on FanDuel you will have to check the late lineups not just once but twice. Of course, if you want to play Liverpool or Fulham at home in the main slate, you’ll have to do it on FanDuel. I was surprised by how many mid-tier players I really like, especially on the FanDuel slate. With names like Harry Kane, Mohamed Salah, Wilfried Zaha and Aleksandar Mitrovic stars-and-scrubs is always going to be a viable strategy. Still, I will be more likely to load up on mid-tier players with one or two top-tier attackers thrown on top.

Goalkeepers
Goalkeepers | ||||||
Player | Team | Opp. | DK $ | DK FPPG | FD $ | FD FPPG |
Nick Pope | NEW | AVL | 5400 | 8.75 | 12 | 14.25 |
Newcastle has allowed the fewest goals in the league and kept the most clean sheets. Aston Villa is fourth in goals scored, saves allowed and clean sheets against. Any of the top four keepers are reasonable bets for a win and a clean sheet but none of them can match Nick Pope's save potential.
Alisson | LIV | LEE | 14 | 12.77
For as bad as Liverpool has been this season, they they haven't lost in six games at home, with four wins and four clean sheets. After an embarassing loss at Manchester United in August, Liverpool took out some frustration in a 9-0 home win against Bournemouth the next week. I think we could have a similar result this week, and it looks like the oddsmakers do too. Liverpool is +130 to win and keep a clean sheet, the best odds in the slate.
Gavin Bazunu | SOU | CRY | 4200 | 4.3 | 8 | 6.63 |
If you insist on playing a cheap keeper, Bazunu has the best matchup. Crystal Palace is averaging just 1.09 goals per 90 minutes and only five teams have allowed more clean sheets to opponents. That sounds like a good team to bet against to me. |
Forwards
Forwards | ||||||
Player | Team | Opp. | DK $ | DK FPPG | FD $ | FD FPPG |
Harry Kane | TOT | BOU | 10500 | 18.78 | 21 | 30.27 |
Kane has been held scoreless just three times in 12 games and Bournemouth has allowed the most goals in the league. At some point teams are going to figure out how to defend the one play Tottenham runs on corners but even if Saturday is that day, Kane could score on a penalty or simply by being dangerous in the box.
Callum Wilson | NEW | AVL | 8300 | 11.36 | 17 | 17.51 |
Wilson has a goal in half of his starts, and I like his matchup better than most of the other mid-priced strikers. He is a tournament play only.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin | EVE | FUL | 15 | 5.32
This is too cheap considering Fulham has allowed the fourth-most goals in the league. Calvert-Lewin has only started two games but he scored in one of them
Darwin Nunez | LIV | LEE | 20 | 17.27
However you want to approach Liverpool in this slate, I wouldn't try to talk you out of it. If you want to fade them because they struggled yet again last week at Nottingham Forest, I understand. If you want to chase Roberto Firmino (who leads the team in fantasy points) or Mohamed Salah or the outside backs, there are obviously plenty of good reasons to do that. I'm choosing Nunez as my spend-up target because he is averaging 25.0 fantasy points in his last three starts. I think we probably get a bounce-back game and Nunez looks like the best of the top-tier plays, considering the price.
Eberechi Eze | CRY | SOU | 8600 | 12.48 | 14 | 13.50 |
There are plenty of worthy forwards in this slate if you want to chase goals and Eze with two goals and 11 chances created in his last four games, Eze is certainly part of that conversation. That being said, he makes this list because he is the safest forward on the DK slate and he is $1000 less than Song Heung-Min. |
Midfielders
Midfielders | ||||||
Player | Team | Opp. | DK $ | DK FPPG | FD $ | FD FPPG |
Ryan Christie | BOU | TOT | 4800 | 5.55 | 11 | 8.35 |
I just watched Newcastle abuse Ryan Sessegnon at left wing back on Sunday and you could do worse than betting on Ryan Christie to do the same Saturday. In his last four starts Christie has five chances created and seven shots (three on target) with one goal. He does better in FanDuel scoring but he could be a cheap tournament play on both sites.
Harvey Elliott | LIV | LEE | 14 | 8.45
Elliott may be the only player who didn't disappoint for Liverpool at Nottingham Forest last week. He finished with a season-high three chances created, and if this game turns out to be a rout, Elliott could be a fantastic value.
Willian | FUL | EVE | 16 | 15.10
In three starts this season, Willian is averaging 24.2 fantasy points. Only three players on the slate are averaging more and they all cost as least $4 more.
Miguel Almiron | NEW | AVL | 8200 | 11.74 | 15 | 16.34 |
Almiron has more goals (five) in his last five games than he had in any of his previous four EPL seasons. I'm willing to take a shot at the hot hand in tournaments, especially on FD.
Alex Iwobi | EVE | FUL | 16 | 15.23
I really wasn't planning on recommending so many mid-priced midfielders but Iwobi leads his team in chances created and assists. This is a good matchup and there isn't anyone else on this team who I trust.
Midfielders | Team | Opp. | DK $ | DK FPPG | FD $ | FD FPPG |
Michael Olise | CRY | SOU | 7400 | 7.81 | 13 | 8.94 |
Olise struggled last week at Everton along with most of his teammates, the first time in five starts he failed to reach double-digit DK fantasy points. Only three teams have allowed more crosses than Southampton and only five have allowed more goals.
Adama Traore | WOL | BRE | 6600 | 6.5 | 11 | 5.76 |
Traore is averaging 10.8 DK fantasy points in five starts and he is forward-eligible. He is a great cash play but I wouldn't mind him for tournaments considering Brentford has allowed 4+ goals in two of its last four games.
Stuart Armstrong | SOU | CRY | 4900 | 4.45 | 9 | 6.74 |
Armstrong is coming off his best game of the season with a goal, two crosses and three chances created against Arsenal. This should be a much better matchup, and Armstrong is averaging 1.68 chances created per 90 minutes. |
Defenders
Defenders | ||||||
Player | Team | Opp. | DK $ | DK FPPG | FD $ | FD FPPG |
Emerson Royal | TOT | BOU | 5700 | 6.85 | 10 | 10.57 |
Spurs really miss Delan Kulusevski on the right side but at least they get Emerson back following a three-game suspension. He has 10 crosses and two chances created in his last three starts. Bournemouth is allowing hte most crosses in the league this season.
Liam Cooper | LEE | LIV | 11 | 12.90
Liverpool has been the best matchup for opposing center-backs for the last few years, and I would like Cooper best of the available options if he plays. If Cooper cannot go, Diego Llorente is a nice pivot.
Kieran Trippier | NEW | AVL | 7800 | 14.83 | 14 | 18.87 |
Trippier is the safest player on the slate at any position, on either site. He has double-digit DK fantasy points in seven straight games and double-digit FD fantasy points in 11 of his 12 games. There are only three outfield players from Newcastle I want to use and Trippier is the only one I trust for cash games.
Ashley Young | AVL | NEW | 4900 | 7.73 | 12 | 14.55 |
This could be your last chance to use Young before Lucas Digne returns to the starting lineup. Young is averaging 9.8 DK fantasy points in six starts this season.
Tariq Lamptey | BHA | CHE | 3400 | 2.01 | 7 | 1.20 |
Lamptey will be in my DK lineups whenever he makes his first start of the season. I would like if start came in a better matchup but considering he had two crosses and 4.4 DK fantasy points in 45 minutes at Manchester City last week, I'm happy to run him out against Chelsea if he replaces the injured Joel Veltman.
Player | Team | Opp. | DK $ | DK FPPG | FD $ | FD FPPG |
Ethan Pinnock | BRE | WOL | 3300 | 3.32 | 12 | 14.85 |
Pinnock is averaging 8.75 clearances + blocks + interceptions per game and Wolves are fourth in CBI allowed. If you need to save $1 Ben Mee is a fine pivot. |
