Brandin Podziemski (illness) is questionable to return to Wednesday’s Game 2 against the Rockets.
Darius Garland had another strong showing in Cleveland’s Game 2 win over Miami, producing 21 points (6-of-14 FGs, 7-8 FTs), two rebounds, nine assists, and two three-pointers in 32 minutes.
Garland flirted with a double-double on Wednesday night in Cleveland, coming up just an assist shy of the feat. His stellar performance, alongside Donovan Mitchell’s 30-point showing, was just the latest in the two-time All-Star’s spectacular season. The pairing will aim to put the Cavaliers in a commanding 3-0 lead when they take on the Heat in Saturday’s Game 3.
Evan Mobley tallied 20 points (7-of-10 FGs, 3-3 FTs), six rebounds, one assist, one steal and three three-pointers in the Game 2 win over the Heat.
Mobley bounced back on Wednesday after scoring only nine points in Cleveland’s Game 1 victory. Yet, it was Mobley’s three-point shooting that really stood out in what has been a career-best season for him from beyond the arc, averaging 1.2 three-point makes per game in the regular season. He’ll look for a repeat performance in Game 3 on Saturday.
Cubs manager Craig Counsell told reporters Ryan Pressly was unavailable on Wednesday against the Dodgers after having his right knee drained earlier this week.
Counsell handed the ball to Porter Hodge to protect a one-run lead in the ninth inning on Wednesday night against the Dodgers. He also expressed optimism that Pressly will be available on Friday for the start of a three-game series against the Phillies. It doesn’t sound like a serious concern, but it’s a situation fantasy managers should monitor closely.
Donovan Mitchell impressed in the Cavaliers’ Game 2 win over the Heat on Wednesday, finishing with 30 points (10-of-21 FGs, 3-of-4 FTs), six rebounds, six assists, one steal and seven three-pointers.
Mitchell closed the show for the Cavaliers in Game 2, producing multiple baskets down the stretch to help the Cavaliers secure a 2-0 series lead. His 20-second-half points were particularly impressive, as were his contributions from beyond the arc. Mitchell will have the opportunity to reach 30 points for the third straight time this series when the Cavaliers take on the Heat Saturday in Game 3.
Wednesday’s game between the Rockies and Royals was postponed due to inclement weather.
The two teams went into an extended delay prior to first pitch with showers in the forecast before ultimately deciding against trying to get this one in. It’ll be made up on Thursday as a doubleheader. Wednesday’s original starters — Germán Márquez and Michael Lorenzen — will presumably take the ball at some point during the twin bill.
