2024 Player Outlook
2023 Recap: Kim's 2023 season not only built upon a vastly improved 2022 season, but it was shades of the Kim we saw dominate the KBO! For the first time since coming to the states, Kim posted a double-digit walk rate, and he hit 17 home runs with 38 stolen bases across 152 games. He posted excellent contact metrics, and his six percent swinging strike rate and 23 percent O-Swing rate display growth and improvement compared to his first two seasons in the MLB. He excellent against left-handed pitching in particular, and was incredibly consistent for most of the season, outside of a down first and last month of the season.
2024 Outlook: Kim will lead off for the Padres in 2024, and when leading off last year, he slashed .268/.364.418 with a 122 wRC+. The Padres' lineup won't pack the same punch in 2024 with the loss of Juan Soto, but Kim should be on base plenty for the likes of Fernando Tatis Jr., Xander Bogaerts, and Manny Machado. There's still enough thump there, and if he runs at the same clip that he did from July 1 on (2.38 G/SB), he's a lock to join the 15/30 club again in 2024, and with a little luck and more hard-hit balls, there's a chance where he goes 20/40, but that's a pretty bold prediction.
