2024 Player Outlook
2023 Recap: The former Pirate appeared in just two games for Pittsburgh last year, but across 78 games at Triple-A, he slashed .261/.333/.414 with nine home runs and six stolen bases. He's prone to strikeouts, as seen by his 29.4 percent strikeout rate at Triple-A last season, and back in 2022 with Pittsburgh, he posted a 12.4 percent swinging strike rate, 75.5 percent contact rate, and 35.1 percent O-Swing rate.
2024 Outlook: When in the majors, he's hit a ton of ground balls, and there hasn't been a lot of hard contact. Mitchell is an average defender, and he's a platoon risk in the San Diego outfield. I wouldn't be surprised to see him surpass 10 home runs this season with a handful of stolen bases, but an elevated strikeout rate will keep his batting average suppressed.
