2024 Player Outlook
2023 Recap: Across 138 games in his age-30 season, Machado slashed .258/.319/.462 with 30 home runs, 91 RBI, and three stolen bases while once again playing great defense. Machado was never going to match last year's .337 BABIP, but a .268-mark last year was his lowest since 2017! He continues to make hard contact, posting a double-digit barrel rate for the third time in the last four seasons, while maintaining or slightly improving on his contact rates overall compared to last season.
2024 Outlook: Offseason elbow surgery will likely force Machado to DH to begin the season, and last year as a DH, he slashed .289/.352/.500 with an .852 OPS and .211 ISO across 128 ABs. San Diego should slow play him getting back into the infield, but it shouldn't affect him inside the batter's box. The veteran star should post numbers similar to the past few seasons, though last year's .258 average should be considered an outlier. In his age 31 season, I'm projecting another 30+ home run season for Machado with close to 100 RBI and a .270+ batting average, making him a solid target outside the first four to six rounds (league size dependent) in drafts.
