2024 Player Outlook
2023 Recap: Despite a .203 average and 35 percent strikeout rate, one can say that Doyle exceeded expectations in 2023. Across 126 games, he hit 10 home runs and stole 22 bases, showing off the power and speed we saw from him in the minors. However, strikeouts have always been a part of his game, and he walked just 5.1 percent of the time, making him somewhat of a liability in leagues that value OBP. His 8.7 percent barrel rate was fine, but a 46.9 percent ground ball rate is a little bit high for a guy who has above-average power. The biggest thing to Doyle is making more contact, as he posted a 17.5 percent swinging strike rate last year, and a measly 66.4 percent contact rate.
2024 Outlook: He's a great defensive player, so that will lengthen his leash in the starting lineup, but posting first percentile marks in xwOBA, xBA, and strikeout rate last season are very worrisome. He's young, and there's still some development and maturation to occur, but if pitchers just feed him non-fastballs, and he doesn't improve, things could get ugly for Doyle. It's not the greatest supporting cast in Colorado, but they do play at Coors Field, so that will help, but I have a tough time projecting Doyle for anything higher than a .215-.220 average at best, and in OBP leagues, his fantasy value takes a hit, despite likely running into 12-14 home runs this year with another 15+ steals.
