WEEKEND OPTIMALS POSTED AT 3PM EASTERN - WEEKEND LINEUPS LOCK AT 7:50PM EASTERN!!!
So, we’re heading to Malaysia for the start of a three week Asian swing starting at TPC Kuala Lumpur. I’m just gonna be honest and tell you that I’ll probably see none of this event live and I’m 99 percent sure, you won’t either. Most of the event will be happening while we are sleeping.
The event features just 78 golfers and the clear majority of them play on the Asian Tour. This is a small field event with no cut which means I’ll be focusing primarily on GPPs.
While TPC Kuala Lumpur is not a long course (7000 yards), it forces players to play smart and think carefully before almost every shot. There are a lot of short par 4’s in which you must play irons off the tee to avoid bunkers and other hazards which will likely leave most players with another mid to long iron shot to the green. Three of the four par 5’s are reachable in two but only the biggest hitters will have a shot at the 600 plus yard final hole.
When targeting stats for this type of course, you always want to start with Strokes Gained: Tee to Green (SGTG) especially when you look at who has finished in the Top 10 over the past few years. Like I mentioned, there are a lot of bunkers and hazards to avoid off the tee, so you’ll want players with good driving accuracy numbers *cough “Brendan Steele” cough*. The smart players who club down off the tee will be left with a lot of approach shots ranging from 175 to 200 yards out, and that’s something you can target as well.
My playbook formed out different than in most weeks as I’m top heavy with a ton of value. I’ve got the two top priced plays in Thomas and Matsuyama but then everyone else is $8700 or below. I really loved a lot of options under $7500 which gives me a lot of room to fit those big dogs in my lineups.
A reminder to DFS players, this tournament is being played half way around the world and the lineups will lock at midnight on Thursday. DON’T FORGET!
GOOD LUCK!
