It was another costly weekend for fantasy owners as some premier players suffered injuries.  This is to be expected as all GM’s are equally susceptible.  The key is to not overreact but rather manage the situation through reasonable trades or waiver wire acquisitions.  So without further adieu, here is the next edition of the gridiron walking wounded.

Tony Romo (QB-DAL)

It is déjà vu all over again as Tony Romo sustained a broken collarbone in the Cowboys’ win over Philadelphia on Sunday.  This is the same injury he sustained in 2010 which cost him ten games.  Romo will be evaluated early this week so we should know more about his time table for a potential return in a few days.  However, it is safe to assume he will miss at least a month and likely more.

Carlos Hyde (RB-SF)

Hyde was taken out of Sunday’s game against Pittsburgh with a head injury.  According to the 49ers, he was cleared to return but they chose to hold him out as a precautionary measure.  Hyde was heavily hyped after his breakout game last week against Minnesota so there was nowhere to go but down.  He should be ready to play next week against the Cardinals but continue checking for updates throughout the week.

T.Y. Hilton (WR-IND)

Hilton is listed as questionable for Monday night’s game against the Jets.  He has been dealing with a knee injury which looked like would keep him from this game, but now it appears he will be a game-time decision.  Fantasy owners likely avoided him this week which was a wise decision because if he plays he will have Darrelle Revis covering him and that would be a bad matchup even if Hilton was 100%.

Chris Ivory (RB-NYJ)

Ivory was dealing with a groin injury he suffered during the week and is listed as questionable for Monday night’s game against the Colts.  However, he will be on the field and should be in for a big game against a defense that has been very susceptible against the run.  Ivory was one of the better value plays this week and should reward fantasy owners with solid production.

Lamar Miller (RB-MIA)

Much to the surprise of no one, Miller is off to a terrible start this year and now can add injury to insult.  Miller left Sunday’s game against the Jaguars with an ankle injury.  He claims that he could have come back so it doesn’t appear to have been a significant injury.  However, you should check back for updates during the week in preparation for Week 3.

Tevin Coleman (RB-ATL)

Coleman left Atlanta’s game against the Giants with a rib injury and did not return.  The injury appeared to be sustained in a violent play that concussed Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie.  Coleman has been one of the best rookies in the league thus far and will be considered a significant loss if he is unable to play in Week 3.  Monitor this situation closely because Coleman is viable RB2 in any scoring format.

Jay Cutler (QB-CHI)

Bears quarterback Jay Cutler suffered a hamstring injury during their blowout loss to Arizona and was taken out of the game.  With limited information, the best guess is that he will miss next week’s game and Jimmy Clausen will get the start.  We should know more during the week so do not make any rash decisions just yet.  However, hamstring injuries are especially dangerous for quarterbacks so it is reasonable to expect the Bears will be conservative with his recovery.

Dominque Rodgers-Cromartie (CB-NYG)

DRC left Sunday’s game against Atlanta with a concussion.  He is the Giants’ best defender and his absence should create favorable matchups for opposing wide receivers.  The Giants play Washington this Thursday so look for Pierre Garcon to see a lot of targets and have a big game.
