World Wide Technology Championship 2024 DFS Picks This Week: Predictions, Values & Projections
Published: Nov 06, 2024
After a brief break, the PGA TOUR resumes with the 2024 World Wide Technology Championship, held at El Cardonal at Diamante in Los Cabos, Mexico.
Formerly hosted at El Camaleón Golf Club for 16 years and known as the Mayakoba Golf Classic, the event moved last season to El Cardonal—a 7,452-yard, par-72 course designed by Tiger Woods. El Camaleón is now part of the LIV Golf schedule.
World Wide Technology Championship 2024: Daily Fantasy Golf Picks & Projections
This tournament sees 120 players competing for a spot in the FedEx Cup’s top 125, with only two more events left in the Fall season. After 36 holes, the field will be cut to the top 65 players and ties.
Erik Van Rooyen set an impressive standard last year with a -27 score, and the competition is set to be intense as players vie for critical FedEx Cup points on this scenic yet challenging course.
El Cardonal at Diamnate: Course Breakdown This Week
The PGA Tour’s World Wide Technology Championship has shifted to El Cardonal at Diamante in Los Cabos, likely to distance from Greg Norman's Mayakoba design, now part of LIV Golf. El Cardonal, designed by Tiger Woods’ TGR Design in 2014, sits along Baja California’s striking landscape. Known for its spacious fairways and sustainable, low-maintenance layout, the course offers a classic resort style with strategic challenges.
With fairways wide enough to accommodate long drives, El Cardonal’s main test lies in its massive, 8,500-square-foot paspalum greens. The slower greens are receptive to long approaches, emphasizing second-shot accuracy and shot angles over driving precision. Woods designed the course to encourage multiple approaches to each hole, requiring players to strategize their angles carefully.
At 7,400 yards, El Cardonal is short by today’s standards, especially playing near sea level, which minimizes roll-out. The layout promotes scoring, with key birdie chances coming from approach shots in the 150-200-yard range. Given the course’s forgiving fairways, putting from 5-15 feet will likely decide the leaderboard, favoring players with sharp approach and putting skills in what promises to be a low-scoring event.
World Wide Technology Championship 2024 Field: Golf DFS
Cameron Young returns after a solid season, posting six top-10 finishes and missing just one cut. He finished 54th at El Cardonal last year, but strong rounds of 65 and 64 hint at his scoring potential here.
Defending champion Erik van Rooyen seeks a repeat win, which would make him the first back-to-back champion since Viktor Hovland in 2020-21. Nico Echavarria also joins the field after a recent victory at the ZOZO CHAMPIONSHIP.
This event is critical for players near the FedExCup Fall’s top-125 cutoff. Joel Dahmen, ranked 124, is on the bubble, with only a slight edge over Matt Wallace. ZOZO top-10 finishers Rico Hoey, Alejandro Tosti, and Max Greyserman also join, with Greyserman bringing strong momentum from three recent runner-up finishes.

PGA Best Bets & Predictions: World Wide Technology Championship 2024
PGA DFS Picks: Top Tier
MAX GREYSERMAN ($10,400)
He enters as the favorite this week and justifies his top-tier salary. He’s finished runner-up in 3 of his last 5 starts, including a close second at the ZOZO 2 weeks ago, where he shot 19-under. Greyserman’s recent hot streak includes 10 straight made cuts, with 6 top-25 finishes, and he's climbed 106 spots in the world rankings.
His short-game skills stand out: he leads this field in Strokes Gained: Putting and Birdie or Better percentage over the last 24 rounds. Remarkably, Greyserman has shot par or better in 34 of his last 36 rounds.
BEN GRIFFIN ($9,900)
He is a strong pick this week, ranking 1st in strokes gained/total in easy scoring conditions over the past 3 years. He’s proven himself on wide resort courses, finishing 23rd at El Cardonal last year and recording top-15 finishes at Corales and TPC Craig Ranch this season. Griffin thrives in weak-field events, ranking 1st in strokes gained in those settings.
While not the longest driver, his solid approach play, excellent short game, and elite putting make him a strong contender. With wide fairways and a solid fall record, Griffin is my pick to secure his first PGA Tour victory.
PGA DFS Picks: Mid-Tier
J.J. SPAUN ($9,000)
DraftKings continues to undervalue JJ Spaun this fall, making him a solid pick this week. After finishing T67 at El Cardonal last season, Spaun should improve in his second appearance. He ranks 2nd in both SG: Approach and par-4 efficiency over the last 24 rounds and excels in easy scoring conditions.
Spaun has been on a strong run, posting 4 top-10 finishes in his last 9 starts, including a T10 at the Rocket Mortgage Classic. His approach game is outstanding, ranking 5th in GIR gained, and while he's not a great putter, he’s shown the ability to spike with the flatstick, especially on Paspalum greens in Mexico. Coming off a T6 at the Zozo, this could be the week he earns his second career win.
MATT KUCHAR ($8,500)
Matt Kuchar is hard to overlook this week. He finished runner-up at El Cardonal last season and has been playing excellent golf, making 8 of his last 10 cuts with 5 top-25 finishes. Kuchar ranks 5th in SG: Approach over the last 24 rounds, showcasing elite ball-striking.
His strong performance on paspalum greens continues, ranking 4th in strokes gained per round on such surfaces. Known for his short game and putting, he ranks 25th in SG: Around-the-Green and 32nd in SG: Putting. With a solid record on resort courses, Kuchar is a serious contender once again.
JACOB BRIDGEMAN ($7,800)
Jacob Bridgeman comes off a T29 finish at the Shriners Children’s Open, marking his fifth made cut and fourth top-30 finish in his last six starts. Although it’s his first time at El Cardonal, he fits the course well.
Since the 3M Open, he’s finished T29 or better in 4 of 6 starts, including 3 top-20 finishes. While he may struggle with accuracy off the tee, Bridgeman excels on the greens, ranking 6th in SG: Putting. He also ranks 4th in SG: Putting and 8th in Birdie or Better percentage, with strong results on paspalum greens.
PGA DFS Picks: Value Tier
JOE HIGHSMITH ($7,400)
He has been on a hot streak this fall, making the cut in all four starts since September, with three top-16 finishes. His T6 at the Black Desert Championship, scoring -16, highlights his ability to excel in low-scoring conditions. Originally the youngest rookie on tour, Highsmith now plays like a seasoned pro, climbing from 150th to 126th in the FedExCup standings.
Ranking 6th in par-4 efficiency on 450-500-yard holes, he’s well-suited for El Cardonal’s layout. Despite his putting challenges, he ranks 14th on tour in birdie average, making him an excellent value pick this week.
WESLEY BRYAN ($6,800)
Bryan has found form this fall, posting T13, T37, and T21 finishes in his last three starts, shooting under par in 10 of his last 12 rounds.
The former PGA TOUR winner has gained strokes on approach and with his putter in back-to-back starts. Currently ranked 138th, his runner-up finish at Puntacana on paspalum greens suggests he’s primed for a strong showing at El Cardonal.
