Keegan Bradley has been known for years as being one of the best ball strikers in the game but has struggled with consistency. He has also faded over the weekend on multiple occasions. This past weekend in Connecticut, Keegan made sure no one would catch him on Sunday after shooting 62, 63, and 64. He led the tournament in Strokes Gained: Approach and Putting for the week. While he was not in the playbook; Brian Harman, Scottie Scheffler, Patrick Cantlay, Chez Reavie, Hideki Matsuyama, Russell Henley, and Carson Young all made it and finished Top 20.  

The PGA Tour made its return to the Motor City for the first time in seven years in 2019.  That did make me a little sad because it meant Washington D.C. lost its yearly event.  This week also marks my ninth year writing the PGA DFS Playbook for Fantasy Alarm. The Detroit Golf Club, located in the historic city of Detroit, Michigan, is a renowned golfing destination. The club has a rich history, dating back to its establishment in 1899. It boasts two championship courses, the North Course and the South Course, both designed by renowned golf course architect Donald Ross. The North Course, the main course used for the Rocket Mortgage Classic is a stock Par 72 stretching out 7,340 yards. It’s known for having tree-lined fairways and challenging greens. It offers a diverse range of hole designs, requiring players to showcase their strategic skills and shot-making abilities. The course has undergone renovations over the years to enhance its playability while preserving its traditional character. 

This will be the first tournament we’ve seen in awhile to have a full stock of par 5s. There are actually two that most players in this field can reach in two which has led to lots of eagles but one of them will test these players at 635 yards, it’s a real beast for even the best players in the world. Despite all that, the average winning score has been 22.6 under par over the last three years. The course has poa greens which takes a special skill set to play well on consistently. There are certain players on tour who just know how to play on them better than most. The rough around the greens will give these players fits, so scrambling will be important as well as greens in regulation. 

Ball Strikers have always had a good history on this course. They cannot be afraid to go pin hunting because birdies will be at a premium this weekend. Players will need to average around a 67 per round to have any realistic chance of winning this thing.  

It looks like the weather should be alright this weekend in Michigan for the tournament.  Thursday will be fantastic with sunny skies and temps in the low 80s. We could see some isolated thunderstorms on Friday but temps in the high 70s. Saturday has a 50/50 chance of thunderstorms throughout the day but by the time Sunday rolls around we’ll see the sun come out and temperatures in the low 80s. I would probably look to start guys in the afternoon Thursday, so they may be able to get their round in Friday before the rain comes. 

I truly can’t decide if I prefer a tournament like this one where the players will light it up all weekend or where the players are put to the test by the course and have to earn every birdie.
