The NHL season officially comes to an end today with Seattle Kraken taking on the Winnipeg Jets. Neither team is heading to the postseason, so this is just a game for the fans and players to enjoy. No team should be resting any of their superstars today, so we should be able to build some pretty good Showdown lineups.

Choosing the right player for the Captain spot is always a challenge. The goal is to target a player that will not only hit value but also exceed it. It needs to be a player with a high floor and that can go off. If that doesn’t describe Kyle Connor, I don’t know what does. He’s going to be the most popular player on this slate and for good reason. If you want to go a little different from everyone else, Nikolaj Ehlers is another option to consider.

When it comes to the rest of your lineup, you can easily find some good value players. Paul Stastny is a name that instantly comes to mind. He’s centring the second line and has nine points in the last ten games. He’s also seeing time on the top power play unit and is a cool $7400 on DraftKings. Another player to consider is Jansen Harkins. He’s expected to skate on the top line with Connor and Pierre-Luc Dubois and his price tag is reasonable at $4800. It’s still a steep price to pay for a player with only one point in the last ten games, but the upside is there for him to hit value.

On defence, Josh Morrissey is the only player worth considering. He quarterbacks the top power play unit and is capable of racking up shots on goals. His price tag is reasonable, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to try and fit him into my lineup. He works if you’re going with a four-man power play stack.

Goalies are usually something I completely avoid in Showdown slates, but Connor Hellebuyck is worth considering. Seattle is terrible at scoring goals and this game should be a high-scoring affair. If Hellebuyck can allow two fo fewer goals, he has a real shot at hitting value. Most people who are rocking Connor in the captain spot won’t have the salary left over to play a goalie. It could give you a real advantage in a GPP.

For Seattle, there are only two players that I can about: Adam Larsson and Matty Beniers. Both players have a chance of exceeding value but in very different ways. Larsson is great at blocking shots, but he’s also been able to mix in a couple of games with three or more shots on goal. He was even able to score a goal and five shots on goal last game against San Jose. His price tag is reasonable at $7000 and he’s going to be a lock in most of my lineups. Beniers has been really good since making his HNL debut about a month ago. He has eight points in nine games, including four in the last five. His $8600 price tag is starting to get expensive, which means he needs to do more than just finish with a single point. He’s regularly seeing 18-minutes a night and is going to get every opportunity to play in this final game.
