NHL DFS Showdown Playbook June 1st: Tampa Bay Lightning Vs New York Rangers
The Tampa Bay Lightning and New York Rangers will face off in Game One of the Eastern Conference Finals. The Rangers got here thanks to the strong play of Igor Shesterkin, but can their offense find a way to produce against Andrei Vasilevskiy? Let's now take a closer look at the daily fantasy hockey top plays for tonight's NHL DFS Showdown slate.
Hockey fans were treated to a real goal fest between the Colorado Avalanche and Edmonton Oilers, but don’t expect a similar game tonight. Two of the best goalies in the NHL go head-to-head in what should be a battle of the ages. While this does make building Showdown lineups a bit more complicated, there is still a ton of value on both sides.
I hate playing goalies in general, but even more when it’s a Showdown slate and he’s in the captain spot. Andrei Vasilevskiy is as good as it gets and there’s a legit chance he doesn’t give up a goal tonight. The Rangers don’t generate a ton of shots on goal, so his floor isn’t as high as it could be, but that shouldn’t discourage us. It’s going to cost a pretty penny to roster him, but I’ll gladly take that risk.
If you want to stick to a skater, Victor Hedman is who I would go with. We know what he can do with the puck, but he’s also pretty elite without it. He can certainly hit value without having to register a point, and that might be important in a game like this one. We can also get him at low ownership in the top spot, so it all works out.
As for the rest of your lineup, value is going to be key. Tampa Bay has no shortage of players to choose from, but my two favorites are Anthony Cirelli and Corey Perry. Cirelli is expected to skate on the top line, which drastically brings his value up. Perry was really good in the second round and continues to see time on the top power play unit. His $6000 price tag is a bit elevated, but I’ll take my chances with him.
On the Rangers side, I’m staying as far away as possible from the top two lines. It’s not that I don’t think they can produce offensively, but I just hate their matchup on the road against an elite goalie. I will consider any player on their third line because there is value to exploit. Kaapo Kakko is $2000 on DraftKings, and at that price, you can basically load up on any superstar you want. Filip Chytil and Alexis Lafreniere are a bit more expensive, but they are good players that can generate offense. They won’t have to deal with Tampa’s top players, so if they get the puck down low and work it around, good things could happen.
On the back end, I’m in love with Adam Fox, Ryan Lindgren, and Jacob Trouba. All three players blocked over three shots in game seven against Carolina and we could see them do the same tonight. Even if we have Vasilevskiy in the captain spot, playing Trouba and Fox together isn’t an issue. They are going to be on the ice a ton and all we want from them is shots on goal and blocked shots. They can easily do that before the second period even ends.
