We have a smaller four-game slate tonight, but it has a surprising amount of star players.

With multiple elite goal-scorers on tap for tonight's NHL DFS picks, it won't be surprising to see high-scoring lineups in most tournaments.

NHL DFS Picks & Daily Fantasy Playbook Today, October 16th

Of the eight teams in action tonight, we can legitimately make the case to stack seven of them, giving us a wide variety of options to pick from for NHL DFS picks today.

The value options will be key tonight since there are so many high-end stars we want to get into our lineups.

NHL DFS Pick'Em Picks on Sleeper Fantasy

Let's jump into some picks over on Sleeper Fantasy before we head to the NHL DFS picks for tonight.

Dylan Guenther has been solid to start the season and has a very favorable matchup tonight against the Anaheim Ducks. Guenther is coming off a game where he had just one shot on goal, which is a bit lower than the 3+ shots on goal he had in the three games prior. I love going to players who are in a bounce-back spot, which is right where we see Guenther tonight.

Evgeni Malkin is just one goal away from 500 career goals and what better place to do it than at home? While the storyline revolves around his goals, I'm actually here for his shot prop. Scoring goals is variable on a night-to-night basis but a consistent volume of shots is far more sustainable. I'm buying into the narrative that Malkin will try to score a goal tonight in front of the home crowd and the only way to do that is to get a ton of shots on net.

Matthew Knies is off to a sneaky great start this season and comes in with 11 shots on goal through three games, which is tied for the second-most on the Toronto Maple Leafs. It's not William Nylander, not Mitch Marner, not John Tavares, it's Knies who is second only to Auston Matthews. Time on the first forward line and the second power-play unit put Knies in a great spot to continue this trend.

NHL DFS Lineup Picks, 10/16

Goalie Of The Day: Connor Ingram - UTA

The Utah Hockey Club is good. Everyone needs to get on board with the fact they are a legit team this season and will be making a real push for the playoffs. Connor Ingram has been good to start the season and has a chance to pick up yet another win against the lowly Anaheim Ducks

It's only been two games, but the Ducks are scoring 1.32 Goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the worst in the league. Ingram's salary is always very favorable on both FanDuel and DraftKings, which is super helpful on a smaller slate when we want to pay up for some elite skaters.

Play Of The Day: David Pastrnak - BOS

What a matchup we have tonight between the Boston Bruins and the Colorado Avalanche! To put things lightly, the Avalanche are a complete disaster on defense right now. Having allowed a whopping 20 goals in three games makes them a clear target for David Pastrnak, who is capable of finding the back of the net multiple times a night.

He's coming off a game where he had just two shots on goal and per usual, I'm always going to be looking for great players coming off of bad games. Two shots and no points is not what we expect from Pasta, a player who has slate-breaking potential. That could be on full display tonight against this disastrous defense on the other side.

Value Play Of The Day: Matthew Knies - TOR

The top-line winger for the Toronto Maple Leafs is off to a strong start this season and when he clocks in at $4K or lower on both FanDuel and DraftKings, he should be on our radar.

While he has just a single goal on the season, a strong 11 shots in three games and time on the second power-play unit will put him in a spot to have a decent floor of points on a nightly basis.

Stack Of The Day: BOS L1/PP1 (David Pastrnak, Elias Lindholm, Pavel Zacha)

The Boston Bruins' first forward line is fully correlated to their first power-play unit, giving us that sweet shared ice time we crave. If you have the salary, you could add in Charlie McAvoy, who is the defender on the first power-play unit.

As noted above, the Avs' defense is terrible and has allowed a league-worst, 5.81 Goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations through three games. Will that rate stay there the entire season? No. Things will certainly even out in the long run, but right now, they are worth targeting every time they are on the slate.
