Welcome to our Monday Playbook and NHL DFS picks today!
We have less than two weeks in the NHL regular season and the playoff picture is starting to be finalized so it gives us a clear picture of what teams are playing for something, and which ones aren't!
NHL DFS Picks & Daily Fantasy Playbook Today, April 7th
NHL DFS Pick'em Picks on Sleeper Fantasy
- MacKenzie Weegar Over 2.5 SOG
- Ryan Nugent-Hopkins Over 0.5 Points
- Brandon Hagel Over 2.5 SOG
For these props the rationale is volume and opportunity tonight and starting with Weegar the Flames are playing a Sharks team that has allowed 307 shots on goal over the past 10 games. Weegar himself averages close to 2.5 shots per game and the blue liner should have plenty of chances to jump into play.
Nugent-Hopkins is a big play as he's anchoring the top line with McDavid and Draisital still working through injury at the moment. He's been very consistent in their absence that's slowed of late but with around 20 minutes of ice time over the last 5 games and a weak opponent he should emerge again.
Then there's Hagel who is often the more underrated Lightning forward of their stacked team. Over the last 4 games he has posted 9 shots on goals which is below his average, but the Rangers allow close to 30 shots on goal per game.
Monday Salary Cap DFS Picks
Goalie Of The Day: Dustin Wolf - CGY
Many of the games tonight are projected to be lower scoring, which is great for goaltenders on the slate, but none have a better matchup than Wolf.
The Flames netminder needs a big one tonight to keep his team in the playoff hunt and with his 2.63 GAA and .910 SV% I am inclined to think he brings the A game against a Sharks team that has scored just 22 goals over their past 10 games.
Play Of The Day: Nikita Kucherov - TB
We often talk about Alex Ovechkin as the Russian Machine, but Kucherov isn't far off from deserving that nick name either. He has 112 points on the season and has had only 1 single digit DFS point total in the last 10 games.
In that span he has 19 points and will play a Rangers team that is middle of the pack defensively against wingers. I am loading up on some Kucherov tonight.
Value Play Of The Day: Viktor Arvidsson - EDM
Much like Nugent-Hopkins this Edmonton winger has really answered the call while their team's superstars are on the shelf. Arvidsson has 3 goals in the last 4 games now and has amassed 17 shots on goal as well during this run.
The Ducks allow a boat load of goals too, with 3.9 per game just in the last 10 games and he's on the top line and powerplay unit as well.
Stack Of The Day: TB L1 (Brayden Point - Nikita Kucherov - Jake Guentzel)

Player News
According to the MLB transactions page, Francisco Alvarez (hand) has had his rehab assignment moved up to Double-A.
Alvarez went just 1-for-10 in three games with Low-A St. Lucie, but he stayed healthy and caught 20 innings, and that’s all that matters. He’ll get in a few rehab games at Double-A, and then the Mets will decide if they want to activate him or give him some time at Triple-A.
Blue Jays OF prospect Jonatan Clase is tied for sixth in the International League with six steals and 11th in OPS through 12 games.
It’s been a really strong start for Clase, who is slashing .382/.523/.411 in 34 at-bats. He has walked nine times and struck out seven on the season, which has led to his superb on-base percentage, and he’s making those trips on the bases count with six steals. The issue is that he’s currently blocked by Myles Straw and Daulton Varsho (shoulder) is nearing a return to Toronto as well, which will make it hard for Clase to find a spot on the MLB roster.
Twins signed RHP Tyler Beede to a minor league deal and assigned him to Triple-A St. Paul.
Beede made 13 appearances for Cleveland in 2024, allowing 13 earned runs on 16 hits in 14 innings while striking out 18 and walking nine. He has reportedly been working out at the Lion’s Den, a baseball training facility in Houston, and working out for MLB scouts. He has shifted primarily to a bullpen role since 2019 and could eventually pitch himself into some big league innings this season.
Colorado CB/WR Travis Hunter said NFL teams he’s met with during the pre-draft process have no issue with him playing both sides of the ball.
Hunter said he would refuse to play for a team that did not allow him to play both corner and wideout. “Because I’ve been doing it my whole life, and I love being on the football field,” he told CBS Sports. “I feel like I could dominate on each side of the ball, so I really enjoy doing it.” Hunter in 2024 played 713 offensive snaps and 748 defensive snaps, “which made him the only player since at least 2017 with at least 250 snaps played on both offense and defense in a single season,” according to CBS Sports Research. Colorado head coach Deion Sanders, a mentor to Hunter, said Hunter could easily play both sides of the ball as a pro since physical contact in the NFL is “minimal.” Pro Football Focus graded Hunter as last season’s second best cover corner. The most likely outcome for Hunter, 21, would include a full-time defensive role in the NFL with a package of receiver snaps in certain situations. He’s expected to go in the first ten picks of the 2025 draft.
Rays activated INF/OF prospect Tre’ Morgan from the injured list and assigned him to Triple-A Durham.
Morgan, the 90th-ranked overall prospect according to MLB Pipeline and the Rays’ 4th-ranked prospect, suffered a quad injury in the spring and was sent to minor league camp in early March. The 22-year-old hit .324/.408/.483 with 10 home runs and 20 steals in 100 games between High-A and Double-A last year. The Rays have played him at first base and both corner outfield spots, and he should spend most of the 2025 season at Triple-A.
The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reports Louisville QB Tyler Shough could be taken in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Russini said Shough’s draft prospects have spiked over the past two weeks, going from a second or third round selection to a possible first rounder. That, of course, depends on how desperate quarterback-needy teams will be on the first night of the NFL Draft. An anonymous head coach told Russini that Shough, who threw for nearly 3,200 yards, 23 touchdowns, and six interceptions in his final collegiate season, is the best QB prospect in the entire 2025 draft class. Shough, who will be 26 in September, played seven years of college football, including stints at Texas Tech and Oregon. Pro Football Focus graded Shough as 2024’s fifth best passer. His adjusted completion rate in 2024 ranked 25th out of 93 qualifying QBs. It would be surprising if a team aggressively pursued a questionable, older QB prospect as a first-round selection.
