NHL DFS Picks, Projections, Lineups & Predictions Today: Saturday Playbook

Published: Mar 01, 2025
Welcome to another NHL DFS Playbook! We have a beautiful eight-game slate with a handful of high-scoring games. There are lots of matchups with 5.5 totals, but that doesn’t mean goals won’t be scored. We just have to find good value.
As always, we need to make sure we are taking the correct goalies. Totals may be low, but goalies need to make saves and hit value and not every single one on this slate will do that. Let’s dive right into the action and see which players we need to keep an eye on.
NHL Pick 'Em At Sleeper Today
Before we get into DFS, let’s make some pick’em picks for the night over on Sleeper. There are lots of ways we try to fill your wallet over here at Fantasy Alarm and this is just another option.
Sleeper NHL Picks, Saturday, March 1st:
- Brady Tkachuk O/3.5 SOG
- Frank Nazar O/1.5 SOG
- Lane Hutson O/0.5 A
There is a good chance that Brady Tkachuk returns for the Senators and he’s in a very good spot to produce. He might not be 100% healthy, but his matchup against San Jose is elite and you know he’s good for a healthy amount of shots and chances. He was averaging over five shots on goal before the 4Nations break, so let’s hope he can return to that form tonight.
The Chicago Blackhawks are a mess and they aren’t going to get better anytime soon. They have a decent matchup against the Anaheim Ducks, but I still don’t think they win the game. All the talk is about Connor Bedard and his struggles, so we need to look elsewhere. Frank Nazar is playing on the second line and is seeing just over 16 minutes a game. His shot total is low, but he’s hit the Over in the last four games. This is a coinflip in my mind, but the Blackhawks will be trailing and they’ll need their best players on the ice a lot, so we’ll take a chance on Nazar.
Lane Hutson is now up to 40 assists on the season and is going to win Rookie of the Year (Don’t @ me about it). He’s seeing a ton of minutes and has found a home on the top power play unit. Montreal’s top line is scoring a ton of goals and Hutson skates with them five-on-five, so there are no shortage of chances for him to pick up an assist.
SALARY CAP DFS
Goalie Of The Day: Linus Ullmark - OTT
It’s very hard to go against Linus Ullmark today. The Senators are in a great spot against a below-average opponent and Ullmark has a great chance of picking up the win. He may ot see enough shots to really exceed value, so he’s more of a cash-game option.
Honourable Mention: Jakub Dobes - MTL
Jakub Dobes got off to a roaring start when he was called up from the AHL, but he’s come back down to earth. He’s 0-2-1 in his last four starts and has allowed three or more goals in five straight games. That being said, the Buffalo Sabres aren’t an elite offensive team and the Canadiens have been playing much better of late. Dobes is a good goalie but he needs his team to help him out. At his $7100 price tag, he’s worth taking a chance on in a GPP.
Player Of The Day: Tim Stutzle -OTT
There aren’t a ton of elite options on this slate, so we’ll try to maximize value. Tim Stutzle doesn’t shoot the puck a ton, but he’s really good at racking up points on home ice. He has 38 in 27 games, including three assists the last time he played San Jose. I don’t love his price tag on DK, but I do think there is enough upside here for him to exceed value.
Honorable Mention: Leon Draisaitl - EDM
I really don’t love Leon Draisatil’s matchup against Carolina, but we can’t deny just how elite he is. The German forward has scored a goal in seven start games and has 24 in 29 road games. He’s shooting 25% away from home, which is way above his career average, but we need to respect it. I don’t hate his $7900 price tag on DK, I just think this isn’t a great spot for him. If you want to use him as a single-bullet and get him at low-ownership, go ahead.
Value Play Of The Day: Jake Walman - SJS
We need to target players who can rack up fantasy points without having to find the scoresheet. Jake Walman is playing a ton of minutes and has been getting his body in front of a ton of shots. The points haven’t been there of late-- just three assists in the last ten games-- but he’s finding ways to hit value and that’s all we really care about.
Honorable Mention: Matvei Michkov - PHI
This is a brutal matchup for the Flyers and Matvei Michkov, but the rookie has eight points in the last three games while also racking up 15 shots on goal. He’s doing all this while playing just under 15 minutes a night. I don’t love it, I wish he was playing more, but he’s cooking and he’s under $5K on DK. The Jets are playing their fifth game in eight days, so fatigue may start to settle in. I need John Tortorella to let his best offensive weapon run free because he’s been so good of late. Michkov is more of a GPP play because of his lack of ice time.
Stack Of The Day - OTT PP1 (Brady Tkachuk - Drake Batherson - Jake Sanderson)
If we’re going to spend up on players, we need to make sure they are shooting the puck. Brady Tkachuk loves to shoot the puck, Drake Batherson can score goals and Jake Sanderson is just an overall good defenceman. All three play together on the top power play unit, which is operating at 23%, good for 13th in the league. If the points don’t come, we need all three to finish with high shot totals.

Player News
Dolphins signed No. 13 overall pick DT Kenneth Grant to a four-year contract.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that Grant will sign his contract today. The former Michigan defensive tackle is expected to fill a major void left by Christian Wilkins, who left for the Raiders in the 2024 offseason. Grant totaled 32 tackles, three sacks, and seven TFLs in his final season at Michigan and excelled at stopping the run while also generating 27 pressures in his final season, per PFF.
Daulton Varsho picked up three hits, three RBI and a homer in a win over the Angels on Thursday.
Varsho has only played in seven games this year, but they’ve been seven good ones. He’s homered three times already, and his slugging percentage is a remarkable — and entirely unsustainable — .727 over 22 at-bats. Varsho has been a mediocre offensive player in his two seasons with the Blue Jays, but it’s possible at the age of 28 he’s having a breakout campaign. Far from a guarantee, but possible.
Taylor Ward hit a two-run homer in a loss to the Blue Jays on Thursday.
Ward, 31, gave the Angels a 2-0 lead with a two-run homer off Chris Bassitt in the first inning. He’s now gone deep in two of his last three games, and it ‘improves’ his slash to .181/.224/.391. Ward has been one of the most hot/cold players players in the sport over the last few years, so fantasy managers who can afford to make some roster moves may want to look at Ward while the going is good.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. picked up three hits and scored twice in an 8-5 win over the Angels on Thursday.
Guerrero also drew a walk. It gives the first baseman multiple hits in back-to-back games, and it’s the third time in May that he’s reached that mark. That’s helped raise his average from .268 to .295, and the only thing fantasy managers can be disappointed with is his .432 slugging percentage. That number should continue to climb as the season unfolds, but Vladdy Jr. has had some inconsistent seasons when it comes to power production.
Chad Green picked up his first save of 2025 with a scoreless ninth against the Angels on Thursday.
Green got the save after Jeff Hoffman worked in back-to-back games — and struggled — in the first two contests against the Angels. He struck out two and looked the part while needing just nine pitches to get through the inning. Hoffman should remain the closer, but Green is on his tail if the struggles were to continue.
Chris Bassitt allowed five runs — four earned — while working six-plus innings against the Angels on Thursday while picking up a win.
Bassitt allowed three runs over the first two innings on a pair of homers, but settled down over his next four frames. He came out to work the seventh, but ended up being charged for two more runs after leaving the contest. The 36-year-old veteran has forged a 3.35 ERA and outstanding 49/8 K/BB ratio over the first quarter of the season, but this wasn’t him at his best. He’ll get the Rays next week if the rotation order stays the same for Toronto.
