Welcome to another edition of the Fantasy Hockey Waiver Wire Report. The only way to win a championship in any fantasy league is to be active on the waiver wire. If you aren’t checking the wire at least once a week, then you’re doing it wrong. Each week, we’ll look at some players you should be adding to your watch list, or adding right away. Let’s take a look at who we are keeping an eye on for this week.

Fantasy Hockey Week 17 Waiver Wire Pickups

Anthony Beauvillier - Vancouver Canucks - Wing

You did not read that as a typo, Anthony Beauvillier is now a member of the Vancouver Canucks. He was part of the package going back the other way for Bo Horvat, who is now a New York Islander. Beauvillier is a talented player, but the Islanders aren’t a great offensive team and he struggled to consistently play in the top six. Vancouver is weak on the wing and he’s going to get a chance to play with some elite playmakers. He’s 1% owned in Yahoo! leagues, so there’s a really good chance he’s on the waiver wire just waiting to be added to your fantasy hockey team.

Kirill Marchenko - Columbus Blue Jackets - Wing

For the last few seasons, Kirill Kaprizov has been the only player with that name worth considering in fantasy hockey, but that may be about to change. Kirill Marchenko is a young winger who is getting a chance to play on Columbus’ top line. He has 13 points--all of them goals-- and four have come in the last four games. His ice time has also increased significantly, So the Blue Jackets are really giving their young winger a look. I’m sure he’s going to pick up an assist at some point this season, but there’s nothing wrong with just racking up goals.

Ridly Greig - Ottawa Senators - Center

With Josh Norris done for the season, the Ottawa Senators are desperate for some help down the middle. Ridley Greig could be that guy to help them out for the remainder of the season. The kid is only 20 years old, but he skating on the second line with Alex DeBrincat and Claude Giroux and has two assists in three games. I don’t know what he’s going to do down the stretch, but if he can hold onto that spot and produce, there’s no reason why Ottawa wouldn’t continue to roll him out. He’s a great addition to any fantasy hockey team in deeper formats.

Anton Forsberg - Ottawa Senators - Goalie

Sticking with the Senators, it looks like Cam Talbot may not be ready to return after the All-Star break. The veteran goalie left Wednesday’s game with a lower body, and while he was expected to be out for the remaining few games, the expectation was he would be able to return for their first game on February 11th. That looks very unlikely at this point. Anton Forsberg has been really good in his last three starts and he should command the net while Talbot is out. He’s a short-term solution for a team that needs help in goal.

Samuel Girard - Colorado Avalanche - Defence

I have no idea what Samuel Girard has been eating, but it has turned him into an elite hockey defenceman. The Colorado defenceman has four points in the last three games, but has added nine shots on goal and has blocked 11. He’s basically turned into Roman Josi, but the Wish.com version. Still, he’s providing a ton of value to fantasy owners who already have him on their roster, and with him being only 10% owned, he could very well be sitting on the waiver wire just waiting for a home. He’s going to cool off at some point, but for now, he can be added in all formats in category leagues.
