Week 11 NHL Fantasy Hockey Injury Report | Fantasy Alarm
Welcome to another edition of the Fantasy Hockey Injury Report. Every week, we will discuss some key injuries around the league and how they may affect your fantasy hockey team. It’s never easy to deal with the injury bug, but it doesn’t have to be the demise of your fantasy hockey team. Let’s take a look at who’s dealing with what this week!
NHL Injury Report - Week 10
Matias Maccelli, Arizona Coyotes - Lower-body
Arizona forward Matias Maccelli is expected to be out of the lineup for about six weeks due to a lower-body injury. The rookie was having himself a pretty good season-- posting 22 points in 30 games and playing on the top line-- but now he will be out of the lineup for an extended period of time. He injured himself against the Los Angeles Kings after playing just over two minutes. It’s unfortunate to see the kid go down, but he should be able to heal and return to the lineup by the middle of February.
Aaron Ekblad, Florida Panthers - Upper-body
Panthers defenceman Aaron Ekblad is questionable to play Wednesday night against Montreal as he continues to work his way back from an upper-body injury. He left the last game against the Islanders in the first period and did not return. He was seen wearing a non-contact jersey at practice, so at least he’s back skating. It might be a long shot that he plays the next game, but it doesn’t sound like the injury will keep him out for an extended period of time.
Torey Krug, St. Louis Blues - Lower-body
Tory Krug has been placed on long-term injured reserve and is only eligible to come back at some point in mid-February. The 31-year-old was just finding his game before the break-- racking up six assists in six games-- but with this latest injury news, fantasy owners are once again asking themselves what to do with him. He’s not a defenceman you can trust for most of the season, so if you can’t stash him on IR, drop him and look for someone to replace him. We don’t know what injury Krug is dealing with specifically, but it’s serious enough to keep him out of the lineup for just over six weeks. Even when he does come back, it’s not certain that he will regain his power play spot in the lineup. There’s too much uncertainty here for a mid-level fantasy defenceman to warrant wasting a roster spot.
John Carlson, Washington Capitals - Face
Capitals defenceman John Carlson is expected to miss an indefinite amount of time after taking a puck to the side of the face in Washington’s last game against Winnipeg. Carlson was lucky to escape without anything too serious, but the team has placed him on IR and they have no timetable for his return. We don’t know if the talented blueliner is dealing with a concussion or some broken bones, so for now, fantasy owners just need to sit tight and wait for another update. He could return at some point next week, but that would be considered a long shot.
Cole Perfetti, Winnipeg Jets - Upper-body
Cole Perfetti is expected to miss about seven to ten days due to an upper-body injury. The young winger miss the team’s last game before the break due to this mystery injury and reports later came out that he would miss about a week of action. It doesn’t sound like this is a serious injury, but hopefully, he can make a full recovery and return to his spot on the top line.
